"Often boundary spanning is trying to hammer a square peg through a round hole, where the square peg is Indigenous Knowledge Systems and the round hole is the scientific framework that is not culturally inclusive."

It is important for the FSWG to be Indigenous-led from the leadership, ways of gathering and decision-making, values, ethics, and holistic worldview. It is creating the table and setting the agenda for Indigenous needs and supporting Indigenous sovereignty. We follow an Indigenized co-production of knowledge approach with partnerships that focus on the process towards solutions, rather than solely focused on research outputs.
