ABOUT THE MUSEUM
History
In 1975, the Xavier Archeological Society with Dr. Erlinda Burton and her husband visited Urios College (now Father Saturnino Urios University) to join for archeological digging. As a response, Urios College organized the Urios College Archeological Society, and the first student President was Mr. Jovito Lagnada. The archeological digging was done in Ambago, Libertad, Butuan City. When they were able to dig many human skulls, boats, and porcelain wares, the group had a pressing problem of the storage. Thus, through the initiative of Miss Hilaria Arquisola, she was able to convince Rev. Fr. Henry Van Engelen, MCS the school president to a museum.
From then on, Miss Hilaria Arquisola a lover of antiquated things, began to acquire old things. She was succeeded by Mrs. Casiana Torralba, who did her best to form the UC Museum in a very presentable manner.
When Mrs. Torralba retired, the Museum was left to the Cultural Affairs Director, Mr. Jovito Lagnada. The museum slept for many years.
In 2003, Dr. Manolita R. Lerida was sent to Cagayan de Oro City in April 2003 to attend five-day training in museology. Thus, she became a Museum-In-Charge in the same year.
In 2004, Dr. Lerida assumed her position with appointment. She proposed to change the position title from Museum-In-Charge to Curator.
Presently, the Museum has been moved to the FSUU College Main Building after Dr. Lerida retires. It is now under the FSUU Learning Resource Center (LRC).
