Every time a scenario loads on the driving simulator, you must turn on your vehicle before switching gears:
Ensure your vehicle is in PARK
Press/hold the brake pedal AND press the ENGINE button
You will hear the engine start and run.
If you do not have driving experience prior to using the driving simulator, make sure that knowing how to properly utilize these pedals is a priority.
BRAKE : LEFT Pedal
GAS: RIGHT Pedal
IMPORTANT: Use only ONE foot to drive.
It is extremely important to correctly change gears, as it it is one of the most delicate pieces of hardware on the vehicle. If you are having difficulty, ask the facilitator.
To change gears (i.e. from Park to Drive):
Carefully grasp the gear shift with your hand.
Gently pull forward towards you.
With the handle still pulled towards you, find the gear you want to be in by observing the dash (it will be highlighted in red) and maneuvering the gear shift up or down.
Gently let go of the gear shift so it falls back into place.
Note: Please observe the GIF (left) several times to ensure you aware of how to properly and safely operate this function.
Some simulations will take place at night time, requiring the use of your headlights. The 'O' switch means they are OFF. To turn on your headlights, move (2) clicks to the RIGHT.
When making turns or changing lanes, according to the law, you must indicate this by using the signal switch.
DOWN POSITION = LEFT Lane Change/Turn
UP POSITION = RIGHT Lane Change/Turn
Feel free to utilize the air conditioning built into the simulator. Rotate the switch left to lower/turn off the air conditioning. Rotate the switch right to raise/turn on the air conditioning.
During your practice driving, you can use the aerial button to get a bird's eye view of your vehicle. This can assist practicing making turns, proper stopping distances, etc.
Important: This feature is to be utilized during practice drive ONLY. You cannot use it during your assignment.
To use your radio to communicate with dispatch:
Hold down the PTT button (highlighted in red) while simultaneously speaking into the microphone. When you are done relaying your message, let go of the PTT button in order for the dispatcher to respond.
Reminder: Your communication should always be professional and as articulate as possible
The MDT has (2) functions that will assist you throughout your assignment:
(F1) Key – Map: The map provides you with your location within the city. Your vehicle is marked with a red triangle on the map.
(F3) Key - Description: The description will provide you with all instructions that will assist you in completing your simulation.
Lights: To activate your lights, pull the switch (pictured left) all the way over to the right position. When in the correct position, the lights outside of your vehicle will be flashing BLUE and RED.
Siren: By default, the siren rotary switch will be on ‘HF’. To activate the siren, move the switch (1) position to the right to ‘T1’. An audible siren will be heard when the vehicle is ON and in DRIVE.
