WELCOME

Hello there!
We, the BSE-MATH future educators, would like to welcome you to our E-Portfolio under the course Field Study 1 (FS1). It was indeed a great way to start our field study journey by being able to experience and observe the actual teaching and learning process in the classroom. Our hearts are full of joy to share our journey, which ended successfully with a lot of learnings and experiences gained.
This e-portfolio serves as evidence, a basis, and a compilation of all the things that we have observed, documented, and done to share our learnings and experiences under FS 1, which have developed our understanding and skills on how to teach and impart our knowledge as future educators. We would like to thank the staff and faculty of the Pangasinan State University Alaminos City Campus and our FS mentor, Dr. Ellen Grace B. Ugalde, for letting us experience this field study. We would also like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to our participating school, the San Vicente National High School, and its school head, teachers, and staff for giving us the opportunity to observe classes in their school to conduct our field study that molds us to become a future educator.
Have a look and enjoy!

According to John Dewey, education is not preparation for life; it is life itself because learning may begin in the classroom, but it certainly doesn’t end there. Teachers set up the signs for the road ahead, which is life itself. They inspire students to learn wherever life may take them. Let's get acquainted! My name is Jolina Biason Imatong; I am twenty-two years old and a fourth-year Bachelor of Secondary Education majoring in Mathematics. I love sleeping, maybe because that is my way to escape this world full of uncertainty. I do believe in the saying, "Everything happens for a reason." You may not know yet what that reason is, but soon you will realize that it is for your own good because God has a better plan than you do.

“Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today.” – Malcolm X, although it's reasonable to state that nobody can predict what will happen tomorrow, having a degree will give you access to additional options. What you do today in terms of education will undoubtedly prepare you for what is yet to come because these career chances are likely to pay more with more education. My name is Jerwin Miano Monterola, a fourth-year Bachelor of Secondary Education majoring in Mathematics.

The weapon in teaching includes observation and passion. As future teachers, our role is to make a significant difference in the life of every learner, especially in the learning process. And this is what I've learned from our observations and the given activities, my priority in teaching is to make an impact on the students not just in terms of their academics but even fostering their self-esteem. Together with my groupmates, we believe that our life has a purpose in imparting knowledge and life lesson to every learner.
Ana Jane B. Pulido
My educational philosophy is founded on what I know and have experienced at this point in my career. As a future teacher, I am certain that my teaching philosophy will evolve. That is one of the benefits of being human: we can make mistakes, learn new things, and make a positive difference. I am excited about the opportunities that lie ahead. My name is Ana Jane B. Pulido, a 4th year Bachelor of Secondary Education major in Mathematics.
INTRODUCTION

Field Study 1 is the first of six sequential studies in the Teacher Education Institutions' Bachelor of Elementary Education and Bachelor of Secondary Programs (BEED and BSED) offered by the Teacher Education Institutions (TEIs). It is related to a professional education subject that focuses on observing the learner's development and the school environment, as well as the school community, the teaching profession, and interpersonal communication.
The primary goal of Field Study 1 is to observe students, teachers, and the community. We do this by paying close attention to student behavior, teacher techniques, and other factors. It offers us opportunities and prospects for career development as we observe the school, classrooms, school facilities, teachers, and students. Through Field Study 1, we were able to have our first campus field observation at San Vicente National High School which gave us the opportunity to have first-hand contact with the teachers and learners as well as conduct observations on the physical aspects of the school such as classrooms, different facilities, and the learning environment.
We, as pre-service teachers, must see how students behave in a classroom setting. Field study lit up the fire inside us to learn and develop our understanding of practical methods to facilitate learning. It allows us to learn knowledge not only from the four walls of the classroom but also through the experiences we have while taking and observing the class. It allowed us to experience and observe how the teachers teach students based on their strategies and techniques, as well as how learners vary with their characteristics, behaviors, and development.
We are the students of Pangasinan State University Alaminos City Campus (PSU-ACC) taking up the Bachelor of Secondary Education with a Major in Mathematics. We enjoyed having field study as a group because it allowed us to learn and experience things together while observing in class. When it comes to our group, all of us are helping and contributing to accomplishing activities and participating in doing the tasks by giving ideas and insights. Through this journey, we are all thankful that we were able to finish Field Study 1 with a lot of learnings and experiences gained that will help us develop our skills and knowledge as future educators, preparing us to enter the teaching profession.

REFLECTION

"Being a teacher is more than just a job; it's a passion." By deciding to become teachers, we've vowed to be the best role models we can be in terms of academic performance, character, and ethical behavior for both ourselves and our future students. Since this is our first experience with this kind of learning, we could certainly say that our field study experience has been quite exciting. We've come to experience and observe the classroom, the facilities of the school, and how the teachers teach, as well as how the learners learn, respond, and participate in the class. It helped us understand that the teacher is the one responsible for teaching and developing the learners, and we've come to realize that teachers carry a lot of weight on their shoulders and have great responsibilities.
As we completed the six activities under FS 1, we gained various insights and made numerous realizations while observing the class and participating in the activities. Based on the flow of activities, we first learned what learning principles teachers use that are appropriate for the nature of learners and learning conditions, as well as what their communication strategies for teaching are, which will help their skills, particularly in developing and engaging learners in discussions. We learned the importance of the teacher's strategies and techniques to effectively deliver knowledge and promote different skills in the learners. So as future educators, we must educate, apply, and prepare ourselves by learning different strategies and techniques that respond to the diversity of learners to address their needs and help make the learning more effective. Also, the importance of the school environment in the learning process and knowledge development of every individual ensures a good place for students' learning because having a conducive positive learning environment will guarantee students' growth and learning, and this will make the students feel comfortable, be active, and be motivated to learn. It taught us about how the learning environment influences student learning and how the teacher is responsible for creating the best learning environment for them in order to develop them. We even understand how to address the characteristics, needs, and interests of learners in a diverse classroom, which is important in promoting unity in learning despite diversity, and these activities taught us the importance of the curriculum in DepEd schools because it serves as a foundation that guides teachers and students in the learning process.
We could certainly say that our field study experience becomes enjoyable and exciting as we learn a lot about the social roles and functions of a teacher to promote harmonious relationships with learners, their strategies and techniques in teaching, and setting a positive learning environment. Field study taught us to see the bigger picture of education, especially how to make an impact in the field of teaching. It is a great opportunity that we have gained a better understanding of the differences among students' traits, actions, requirements, and stages of growth. It helps us understand and learn teaching strategies, techniques, and approaches that we can use and apply as future educators and that will help us teach students in a more effective way. As we finished the activities and observations, our lives changed, and it gave us a clear vision and a burning desire to pursue our dream and to teach students. "As a future teacher, it is not just about imparting what is necessary for the learners; we must be a life-changer and a role model to everyone."
