The students in Grade 6 & 7 at Forest Run Public School have been learning about political and social justice issues including human & animal rights. These learning explorations have led to taking on a “Social Justice Project '' to free the entrapped orca, ‘Kiska’ who was captured when she was about three years old-almost 40 years ago- off the coast of Iceland. She has been living alone in Marineland for 10 years. Captivity has left her without the skills she needs to survive in the ocean. She gave birth to five calves who all died an early death. We know mother orcas suffer terribly at the death or separation from their calves.
