本作は、『週刊少年ジャンプ』で連載されていた吾峠呼世晴の漫画『鬼滅の刃』（集英社）をアニメ映画化したものだ。大正時代を舞台に、家族を鬼に殺された竈門炭治郎が、鬼殺隊の剣士となって鬼と戦う姿を描いた本作は、昨年アニメシリーズが放送されると人気が爆発。先日発売された第22巻でシリーズ累計発行部数が1億部（電子書籍含む）となる令和を代表する大ヒットとなった。
すでに連載は終了しているが、その勢いは留まることを知らない。今回のアニメ映画の上映も異例の盛り上がりで、時刻表と言われるくらいびっしりと上映回数を増やし、コロナ禍の影響で今まで席数を半分にしていた映画館も『無限列車編』では、一部劇場を除き全席開放となった。
原作ファンやアニメファンはもちろんのこと、苦境に立たされた映画業界にとっても救世主となるのではないかと大きな期待が寄せられている。
以下、ネタバレあり。
『無限列車編』は、40人以上の乗客が行方不明になっているという「無限列車」の中で物語が進んでいく。汽車に乗り込んだ炭治郎、禰豆子、嘴平伊之助、我妻善逸はすぐに鬼と遭遇。鬼は柱（鬼殺隊、最高位の剣士）の煉獄杏寿郎があっさりと倒すが、どうにも様子がおかしい。
実は車掌が切符を切ると、夢を操る鬼・魘夢の術が発動する仕掛けとなっており、炭治郎たちは深い眠りについていたのだ。魘夢は、人間たちを炭治郎たちの夢の中に送り込み、無意識の領域にある精神の核を破壊させようとする。
劇中では炭治郎たちの観ている夢が描かれるのだが、「列車の中で夢を観ている」炭治郎たちの状態と「劇場で映画を観ている」観客の状態がシンクロする構成が面白い。古くはリュミエール兄弟による短編サイレント映画『ラ・シオタ駅への列車の到着』や、黒澤明監督の『天国と地獄』、近年ではヨン・サンホ監督の『新感染 ファイナル・エクスプレス』など、列車と映画は相性がいい。
アニメ映画では、りんたろう監督の『銀河鉄道999（劇場版）』が真っ先に思い浮かぶのだが、ゴールに向かって付き進む「動く密室」としての列車は、映画のアナロジーとして秀逸だ。おそらくもっとも映画的な映像は、西部劇に登場する機関車の屋根の上を主人公が走る場面だと思うのだが、もちろん『無限列車編』にも健在である。

絵柄は2種類（両面1枚）で、竈門炭治郎（かまど・たんじろう）竈門禰󠄀豆子（かまど・ねずこ）、我妻善逸（あがつま・ぜんいつ）、嘴平伊之助（はしびら・いのすけ）の4人が描かれた可愛らしい仕上がりになっています。「まだまだおうちで過ごす時間も多いので、ぬり絵を楽しんでいただければと思います！帰ったら手洗いうがいを忘れないようにしてくださいね。」と吾峠呼世晴先生からのコメントも入っており、お子様をはじめ、たくさんの方に遊んで欲しいという思いの込められたぬり絵になっています。
