From Clothes to Rugs

ABOUT: We are a team consisting of 4 students and 2 teachers. Our goal is to increase our digital skills while recycling clothes and protecting the environment and our cultural heritage.

In the "From Clothes to Rugs" project, we worked on the sustainability of clothes. While recycling our clothes, we turned our old clothes into rugs, our cultural heritage. While applying STEAM components to rugs, we saw the similarity between rugs and coding at the same time. We also applied 3D and AR applications in this project where we developed our digital skills. We brought together our thousands of years old rug patterns with 21st century skills. We even developed rugs with artificial intelligence for future generations.

We were in "The BIEA International STEM Competition2024"

We participated in The BIEA International STEM Competition2024 . (The British International Education Association (BIEA) is a not-for-profit organisation with head office in London. Their mission is to promote British education to emerging international education markets, primarily in China and UAE, but also in other countries.BIEA works to meet the needs and challenges in the international education .

Every year BIEA organises STEM competition for ages 7-21. In 2024 the topic was "Sustainable Styles, Threads of the Future" . "From Clothes to Rugs" Project got second place in this competition.

After the showcase organized by BIEA at University College of London (UCL), we were hosted the Turkish Consul General in London by Mr. Utku Atahan, at the Turkish Consulate General in London. Mr. Atahan shared his tremendous experiences with us.

We also visited Oxford University, British Museum, Science Museum and other places in London.

"2nd STEAM Online Conference for students "

We participated in "2nd STEAM Online Conference " organised by Women Science Teachers(25.04.2025). We presented our project to the participants. "Women Science Teachers(WST), one of the partner organisations of STEM Discovery Campaign, organised this conference to increase young people's interest in science education.
