Study Overview
The goal of this project was to test the effectiveness of three learning technologies on 7th-grade student’s mathematical understanding. Students spent nine 30-minute sessions working with one of the three technologies: From Here to There, ASSISTments, or DragonBox.
From Here to There (FH2T) is a research-based technology game where students transform math expressions to match a goal and solve math puzzles through the use of gestures.
ASSISTments is a research-based online learning tool that provides hints and feedback on students’ problem solving. It covers the mathematical content targeted in 7th grade, and is well-aligned with traditional instruction.
DragonBox is an award-winning game-based application that introduces players to algebraic concepts through a discovery puzzle-based approach that embeds gestures, multiple representations, and immediate feedback.
