A website for Flat Rock Middle School families.

About the Flat Rock PTO

Get involved with the Flat Rock PTO today and know your student and the school's faculty will have the advantage of parents that are willing to help them succeed. Even in middle school, parents still play an important role.

Research from Harvard University’s Family Research Project indicates "that the children of involved parents tend to do better in school across a number of measures, including a higher overall GPA, better scores on standardized tests, and an increased likelihood of enrolling in college. Engaged parents can also reduce the effects of negative peer pressure that often push kids to become unmotivated in school. Even though students may roll their eyes about moms helping at school, parents can be reassured that their involvement has long-lasting positive effects on their children’s academic motivation and performance."

The Flat Rock PTO is your link to ensuring the students and faculty have the assistance and resources they need to succeed. Get involved in the Flat Rock PTO.

All can be worn or used at school, including our new clear water bottles. Online orders will be delivered to students homeroom <2 weeks from order. A confirmation email will be sent to parents to notify of delivery date.

Donation Opportunities

We are appreciating our teachers and staff this year by giving away a gift card a month. If you would like to donate a gift card(s) or money towards the purchase of additional gift cards we can appreciate more people. To donate money to the gift card drive go to our square site here or contact Sharon Douglas, our PTO Treasurer & Melissa Lohr, our Parent Liaison to drop off/send in gift cards.

Our One Big Annual Fundraiser

Knowing that everyone is busy and that having a middle schooler probably means you also support your students extra curricular activities, the PTO decided several years ago to only hold one fundraiser. With the money raised the PTO has been able to fund the purchase of a new digital sign for the school, benches for around the building, and grants for teachers. This year our fundraiser will launch on August 11th.

Our 2021 fundraiser launched this week! Please click here to sign-up and support our school https://www.stepitupkids.com/FlatRockMS30290/ to help earn funding for :

  • Project-based learning STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) initiatives & curriculum

  • Teacher grants to promote student achievement & engagement

  • Water bottle filler stations for hallways

  • Mural for the school gym

Double your donation: if your company participates in a matching gift program please submit your STEAM engine donation receipt to that program to double your contribution to our PTO. The matching funds will go directly to PTO and be considered a parent donation vs STEAM ENGINE fundraiser directly. Funds will be used to support PTO initiatives for the entire school. Contact name to submit donation to: PTO Treasurer, Sharon Douglas Email: sddouglas1234@gmail.com, EIN#58-2216869

So what is STEAM Engine?

STEAM Engine ignites the power of our students' imaginations and helps them build a better future for all! STEAM Engine schools earn traditional fundraiser profits, plus additional Bonus Bucks to spend on Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics!

I want to thank those who was on the zoom PTO meeting this past Wednesday night and for the ones that volunteered to be on the board and serve on committees. I also would like to send a shout-out and special thanks to the former board members that have rolled off (former president, Melissa Lohr and the Treasurer LaShanta Taylor), they did a splendid job.

Looking forward to the upcoming year and to the ones that could not attend the meeting - if you would like to sign up to volunteer next year - the presentation link from the meeting to see what was discussed and what committee you may want to join to help out is below:

We will also meet through the summer for planning fundraisers, school year activities, and to meet with the principal, Ms. Bolton.

If you have any questions, pls let me know.

Thank you for all you do and welcome to Flat Rock Middle School PTO.
