If you are a high school student looking to earn service hours at a worthwhile community event (or an adult just looking to volunteer), you're in the right spot. The Friends of the Arlington Heights Memorial Library have book sales that require work to set-up, straighten, and take down books at the end of the sale. We always need help with taking down our sales.
Click the Signup Genius link to the left to see what opportunities are available for cleanup after book sales at the Arlington Heights Memorial Library (if there is no Sign Up Genius link, we are currently not looking for volunteers.) Spots are limited.
Here's a summary of what you can expect to do during your volunteering time.
Check in with Allison Anderson or another Cleanup Leader in a yellow shirt/vest
Length of time helping cleanup is generally 2-3 hours.
You will box books, load them onto carts, and take them to the Friends room on the lower level and then unload and stack the boxes.
BONUS Pre-sale! As a thank you to our volunteers, sale workers are invited to shop early at our Volunteer Pre-Sale on the Thursday before the sale, 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm. There is a $50 limit on Thursday sale purchases. Only sale volunteers are permitted at the sale (not friends or family members).
The Library is located at 500 N Dunton in Arlington Heights. Volunteers must have good listening skills and wear closed-toed shoes at the book sale.
Book Sale Cleanup Guidelines
Volunteer shifts are generally on the last day of our weekend sales, on Sundays. There will be special sales (e.g. Children’s and Holiday) where there is only a single volunteer shift (usually the Cardinal Room).
Cardinal Room 3:00 – 5:30 pm Shift
When you arrive at the library, report to the Cardinal Room (Children’s/Holiday book sale room), on the 1st floor near the Dunton Street entrance. There will be a sign-in sheet near the cashiers. Please sign in and get a name tag, then check in with a volunteer wearing a yellow shirt for cleanup instructions.
Hendrickson Room 4:00 – 6:30 pm Shift
When you arrive at the library, report to the Hendrickson Room (adult book sale room), on the 2nd floor. There will be a sign-in sheet in the lobby area. Please sign in and get a name tag, then check in with a volunteer wearing a yellow shirt for cleanup instructions.
Safety Guidelines
For safety, you must wear closed-toe shoes at cleanup. Boxes of books are heavy. When lifting boxes, we recommend a 2-person lift with a partner.
I look forward to working with you.
