Risk Assessment:
Key reminders for Volunteers:
● Read, understand and sign the risk assessment
● Supervise to ensure the wellbeing of children
● Encourage children to be well behaved, no running/skidding or dangerous behaviour
● Stand near possible exit points to ensure children stay within the hall/tuck area
● Alert lead supervisor or Staff member with any concerns
● Tidy and clear up rubbish and spills immediately
● Help children with their money if trying to purchase from TucK
● Be alert to allergies and ask for help if needed (See below)
● Assist with any evacuation, under the direction of the headteacher
Please remember to register your child before you register yourself and enter the school. Remind your child that should an evacuation occur they should follow the instructions of the teaching staff, as if they were in school.
Allergies:
Children who have allergies (Friends of John Blandy request information via Classlist ticket sales) will be given a labelled allergy wrist band to wear. When volunteering on the Tuck Shop you need to familiarise yourself with the ingredients of the sweets we are selling. A print out will be available for you to read.
You should check if a child has a wrist band and ensure they are not given anything they are allergic to, or could have been contaminated. Pre-packed vegan sweets will be available. If in doubt, please ask the lead volunteer or a member of teaching staff.
Evacuation procedure:
In case of emergency, evacuation would take place using the double doors next to where we set up the Tuck shop (from lunch corridor).
Mrs Wilson and other teachers present would lead the evacuation, leading all the children to the field. Children will then be asked to line up in their classes and a teacher will do a headcount and then take the register.
Mrs Elliott (Fire Warden) to do a sweep of school. Mrs Elliott & Mrs Wilson to communicate via mobile phone.
Volunteers should check their immediate vicinity and evacuate immediately, following the teachers and guiding the children to the field. Volunteers are expected to assist with guiding children out of the hall and tuck shop area but are not to assist with any other checks of the building (e.g. the toilet area) unless they are specifically asked to by a Teacher.
Hi Vis Jackets are to be available at the fire exit for staff and volunteers to wear. Volunteers should turn on their phones to use as torches to assist the evacuation.
Volunteers should explain to their own children ahead of the event that they should evacuate immediately and not search for their parent, as if it was within a school day.
On the field volunteers should spread themselves as evenly as possible across the assembled class lines and be ready to assist with taking registers, checking headcounts or comforting children. Any children with personal evacuation plans will have a parent with them or have agreed actions with Mrs Elliott.
Walkie Talkies will be available for communication.
Where FOJB has volunteers working at the event who are also a member of staff at John Blandy, in the event of an evacuation those volunteers need to assume additional teacher duties and should report to Mrs Elliott for instructions. This can include activities such as checking toilet areas, first aid and co-ordinating communication, registers etc. These volunteers should put on a high vis.
Once on the field, an appointed FOJB Volunteer will walk along the class lines and take a register of all volunteers and report numbers to Mrs Elliott.
