The Hudson Senior Center receives another NEW BUS!

Thanks to the Cummings Foundation

The Hudson Senior Center has historically had two buses always paid for by the Friend’s Organization. Our two existing buses each had over 100K miles and were requiring a lot of maintenance.

We wrote a grant to the Cummings foundation for the 100K for 100 and were awarded the $100k in two installments of $50K. This allowed us to purchase new buses with the help of our Friends Organization. We received the first installment of $50K from the Cummings Foundation in 2018. We ordered a 2019 10 passenger Transit Van with wheel chair lift. The cost was $54,146.46. The Cummings Foundation paid $50K and the Friends of Hudson Seniors Inc paid $4,146.46.

We received our second installment of $50K from the Cummings Foundation in 2019. With that we ordered a 14 passenger bus that cost $64,201.00. The Cummings Grant paid $50K and the Friends of Hudson Seniors paid the difference, $14,201.00 . The Cummings Foundation Grant was a substantial help to the Hudson Friend’s Organization for the purchasing of the Hudson Senior Centers two new buses. We are so grateful to the Cummings Foundation and our Friends Organization.

The 10 passenger transit van is used every day for medical appointments, rehab appointments, pharmacy, senior center programs, grooming, banking all between Hudson and Marlborough. The 14 passenger bus is used for food shopping at least two times a week, special trips and to assist the other driver when the schedule is busy.

We are sincerely grateful to the Cummings Foundation for this grant that allows us to continue providing the transportation needs of our seniors in Hudson.

The Cummings Foundation: $100K for 100 Grant Program

The Hudson Senior Center was one of 100 recipients chosen to receive a $100,000.00 grant from the Cummings Foundation. Cummings Foundation awards $10 million each year through its $100K for 100 grant program. This place-based philanthropic initiative primarily supports nonprofits in the Massachusetts counties where the Foundation and its founders originally derived their funds and where staff and clients of the Cummings organization live – Middlesex, Essex, and Suffolk County. The funds will be used to purchase two new buses, one this year and one next year. This will allow the Center to continue providing transportation for seniors which is an essential need to remain independent. It is an honor to be selected among so many non-profit organizations that contribute so much to their communities.
