Mission: The Friends of Extension Master Gardener Program – Mecklenburg (FEMGP Meck) is a non-profit organization supporting activities by Extension Master Gardener Volunteers (EMGV) to promote research-based horticultural practices and environmental stewardship.
EMGV Meck 2025 Accomplishments
Donated overall 7,453 Extension Master Gardener Volunteer hours in research-based educational service.
Grew the diversity and breadth of community gardens providing educational consultations to start and/or maintain multiple gardens.
Colloborated with JCSU's Sustainability Village to raise over 1,000 vegetable plants.
Enhanced the school garden program using a Lowe's donation to work with Carolina Green Industry Network at Charlotte Lab, Chantilly Montessori, Collingswood Language Academy, Elizabeth Traditional, The Fletcher School, and Irwin Academic Center.
Responded to requests for speakers with delivery of 53 presentations by the EMG Speaker's Bureau resulting in 1,642 community contacts.
Answered 523 resident questions received through email, voicemail, or at the Meck Extension office providing research-based horticultural information.
Worked a Ask a Master Gardener booth at 7 Farmer's Markets from April-September.
Created a Fall Plant Sale for the community at the Extension office raising funds to support future EMG programs in the community.
Increased educational opportunities at the Freedom Park Demonstration Garden through participation in the Great Southeast Pollinator Census, by piloting a "Guide to Learning in the Garden" class, and by providing garden tours.
Partnered with 4-H agents to create awareness of 4-H/Youth programs in Mecklenburg County.
Funded a horticulture student scholarship at CPCC.
