Our Project

Previous State of the Crestwood Pickleball Courts:

• Four pickleball courts, which were originally designed as junior tennis courts. They face east-to-west, which results in glaring sun in players' eyes most of the day. 

• The courts have large cracks and sloping issues impacting play. 

• The courts are too small - without enough room on the sidelines and behind the baseline for safe and proper play.

• Lengthy wait times with a dozen or more people regularly wait for courts to open up to join the games during peak times. 

  • More than 500 people are in the primary Crestwood Pickleball GroupMe feed, and hundreds of others sometimes visit the courts to play.

Completed Project by City-Approved Plans:

• The previous four courts expand to six, taking over one tennis court. 

• All six courts orient north-to-south so sunlight isn't directly in players' eyes. 

• Cracks filled and sloping fixed so that will no longer be a significant impediment to players. 

• Repainted the playing surface and official lines painted. 

• 100% of the money was fundraised from tournaments, corporate donors and the generosity of our local community players.

Their commitment, along with the support of the City of Birmingham, the Parks & Recreation Board, and our neighborhood associations, has brought this project to life.

Pickleball at Crestwood has always drawn players from both our neighborhood and across the greater Birmingham area. With these renovations, we look forward to providing a space that not only strengthens our community but also welcomes all who come to enjoy it.
