Joseph (J.C.) Shinn married Florence Mayhew in 1905. They lived in the Redwood Room in the Big House, eventually with two children. J.C.'s mother, Lucy Shinn, died in 1915. Florence remodeled and updated the “Big House”. The family moved into the "Big House" sometime in 1917 with Joseph Jr. and his younger brother, Allen. Little Lucy was born in 1910.
Today the bungalow is used for classes given by the city of Fremont. The Friends of Heirloom Flowers takes care of the garden in front of the bungalow.
What's that crumbling low structure to the left? This is the woodshed" which would have held wood and other items so that they were accessible to the kitchen and fireplace. You can see the woodshed in two photos around 1913 in the Bungalow Garden. It's over a century old! It needs TLC that's for sure!
