Pack your bins correctly and well.
Keep a litter bag or small container in your vehicle for trash.
Outdoors, carry in and carry out any items you bring with you.
Smokers, mind your butts. No tossing!
Truckers, secure your loads.
All motorists - put trash in bins, not out vehicle windows.
If you drop something, pick it up.
We encourage people to help us keep the Farquharson Community clean. The presence of litter invites more litter. Friends of Farquharson volunteers pick it up before it spreads. Please follow easy tips to keep litter out of the neighbourhood.
Dog-strangling Vine is a huge problem in Ontario. Our community is no exception. We started a program to cut back this terribly invasive weed which is also one of the main threats to the monarch butterfly population. Volunteers with clippers attacked the weed on public and private properties including Salome Drive, the Royal Canadian Legion and Garden Parkette.

When the Ontario Ministry of Transportation made moves to expropriate pieces of parkland and backyards for the Highway 401 expansion, we moved to stop them and successfully had them abandon expropriation and follow a different option.
105 Pitfield
Request to Sever Lot and build two homes
Frontage Required: 15 meters
Frontage Requested: 12.19 meters
Our community had a tremendous win at the Committee of Adjustment on November 24 when a proposal to divide a single lot at 105 Pitfield into two and build two homes where one now stands was unanimously refused.
Concerned residents along with Friends of Farquharson made strong presentations. They were pleased to have the support of Councillor Cynthia Lai and city planning staff in opposing the application.
An approval would have opened up the old core streets of Farquharson to a developer's field day and unwanted subdividing of the existing large lots that people who live here treasure so much. We were encouraged by the words of the committee member who moved the motion to reject the severance proposal.
Member Anne McCauley said the severance "is not justified."
"I think the Official Plan talks about how we preserve certain areas of the city in the character that they are, and on that basis I recommend refusal of this consent application and refusal of the variance application to comply with the OP Policy," she said.
Anne McCauley is a professional land use planner with over 40 years of experience of working in the municipal sector. She has also been involved in numerous advisory committees, associations, and community initiatives. Despite this decision in our favour, the community has to stay vigilant. The applicant, a speculator, will most certainly appeal this decision to the provincial appeal board called TLAB. So the fight to protect our neighbourhood isn't over. Congratulations to all the residents who took the time to take a stand.
