Our Commitment to Privacy
Fride is built on a simple principle: your data belongs to you.
The core of Fride detecting which app you open, showing a focus challenge, and measuring your screen time works entirely on your device. We do not upload, sell, or share your app usage data or screen time history with anyone.
This policy explains what data we collect, why we collect it, and how it is handled.
2.1 Data That Never Leaves Your Device
The following data is processed locally and is never transmitted to our servers or any third party:
Which apps you open. Detected via Android's Accessibility Service solely to display the focus challenge screen at the right moment.
App usage durations. Collected via Android's Usage Stats API to calculate and display your screen time statistics.
Your blocked app list. Stored locally on your device.
Task completion history. Math problems solved, breathing exercises completed, and similar challenge results.
Focus session data. All session records, streaks, and personal records.
2.2 Data Collected Automatically (Analytics)
We use Firebase (Google LLC) to collect anonymous, aggregated analytics that help us improve the app. This data does not identify you personally.
Data collected through Firebase may include:
App launch and session events
Feature usage (e.g., which challenge types are used)
Crash reports and error logs
Device type, OS version, and language settings
App version
Firebase data is processed by Google LLC and subject to Google's Privacy Policy. Analytics data collected through Firebase may be transferred to and stored in the United States. By using Fride, you acknowledge this transfer. Where required by law (including GDPR), such transfers are protected by Google's standard contractual clauses.
2.3 Data We Do Not Collect
We do not collect:
Your name, email address, or any contact information
Screen content, keyboard input, or private messages
Photos, camera, or microphone data
Location data
Payment or financial information (purchases are handled entirely by Google Play)
Any data from children under 13
2. Android Permissions Explained
Fride requests the following permissions. Each is used solely for the purpose described below.
Accessibility Service (BIND_ACCESSIBILITY_SERVICE)
Purpose: To detect which app is currently open on your screen so Fride can display the focus challenge at the right moment. What it does NOT do: It does not read screen content, keystrokes, messages, passwords, or any other input. It asks one question only: "Which app package is currently active?" Data retention: This detection happens in real time on your device. Nothing is stored or transmitted.
Google Play Disclosure: This app uses the Accessibility Service. This service is used only to detect the currently active app package in order to display Fride's focus challenge screen, and does not collect, store, or share any personal data through this service.
Display Over Other Apps (SYSTEM_ALERT_WINDOW)
Purpose: To draw the Fride challenge screen (math problem, breathing exercise, etc.) on top of the app you are trying to open. What it does NOT do: It does not capture, record, or interact with the content of other apps.
Usage Access (PACKAGE_USAGE_STATS)
Purpose: To calculate how much time you spend in each app and display your screen time statistics within Fride. Data retention: Usage data is processed and stored locally on your device only.
Query All Packages (QUERY_ALL_PACKAGES)
Purpose: To display the list of apps installed on your phone so you can select which ones to block. What it does NOT do: It does not transmit your app list to any server.
Google Play Disclosure: This permission is declared to Google Play in accordance with the Prominent Disclosure requirements. The installed app list is used solely for in-app display and is never uploaded, shared, or stored outside your device.
Post Notifications (POST_NOTIFICATIONS)
Purpose: To send you optional reminders, daily summaries, and focus session updates. Control: You can disable notifications at any time in your device settings.
Schedule Exact Alarm (SCHEDULE_EXACT_ALARM)
Purpose: To trigger scheduled focus modes or routines at a precise time (e.g., lock social media every evening at 9 PM).
Receive Boot Completed (RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED)
Purpose: To automatically restart Fride's background protection after your device reboots, without requiring you to manually reopen the app.
Purpose: To ensure scheduled routines and alarms function correctly while your device screen is off.
The anonymous analytics data collected through Firebase is used exclusively to:
Fix bugs and crashes
Understand which features are most useful
Improve app performance and stability
Make informed product decisions
We do not use your data for advertising. We do not sell your data. We do not share your data with third parties except as described in this policy.
