Model UN is an extracurricular activity at Austin High where students simulate representing a certain country surrounding a global topic - imitating the United Nations. The goal of Model UN is to come together and discuss/debate a topic with the intent of working together to form peace through an agreeable solution. This comes in the form of a resolution paper that is written with others and voted on by the committee. Each year our program puts on a conference not only for the academies at Austin High, but also our very own AUSMUN conference which various schools in the Texas area can attend. The Model UN class focuses on helping students develop strong public speaking skills and learn about current and historical events as they take a unique stance while collaborating with others to reach a common goal.
FreshMUN is a conference that has been put on each year in the past by Model UN students at Austin High. This conference teaches freshmen in all four academies about the United Nations as well as the Model UN program at our school. Students participating in this conference will become familiar with a certain global topic and learn how to effectively and properly conduct research. This conference will be useful in developing public speaking skills as well as critical thinking while collaborating with fellow classmates.
We hope everyone participating in this conference is as excited as we are!
