The French teachers at the William Diamond Middle School, located in Lexington, Massachusetts, would like to welcome you to the French program's website. We are a strong and active community at Diamond and in the greater Francophone World, organizing life-changing opportunities for our students year after year. Our approach is creative, interactive and meaningful. Language, culture, and critical thinking are intertwined in our classrooms, encouraging our students to be explorers on the way to becoming proficient communicators and empathetic leaders of this world. Our driving forces throughout the three years of French study are Identité et Communauté (Identity and Community). Each year we explore these concepts from different angles to give a rich learning experience to all students.
In April 2017 Lexington's 6-12 French Program was nationally recognized as an "Exemplary French Program with Distinction", the highest possible honor bestowed by the American Association of Teachers of French. Strict indicators were met in a variety of areas including pedagogy, program offerings, teacher qualifications, student proficiency, and which was all supported by letters of recommendation from administration, parents and former students.
Merci to our students and parents for supporting our program from school to home. A huge thanks to the Lexington Education Fund (LEF), the Diamond PTO and the Friends of Lexington Music, Art & Drama Students (FOLMADS) for financially supporting our various projects over the years. And a very special thank you to retired French teacher, Joan Yarmovsky, for establishing the French Program's fund through the Diamond PTO, Changez le Monde, which will help support our yearly endeavors to changing the world.
Merci mille fois !
Diletta Ferrai, Christine Goulet & Elisabeth Passeri
