What is art? Is it a sculpture or painting? Is it a photograph or mural? The answer is yes. Art is whatever the artist makes it, whether that's a photograph or a 99-foot-tall sculpture of a president. This photo you're seeing now next to the text block is Deborah Czeresko's Oh God/Martina 59/9. An amazing glassblower and artist and known for the activism that she portrays through her art work. This piece is currently on display at the Toledo Museum of Art and I highly recommend you go see it in person. But the question still stands, what is art? Well, I'll tell you what I think art is. I believe that art is anything that a person pours their time and energy into to then turn around and share with the rest of the world. Art is not just the final product it is the beginning middle and end of the process, it's what you get when someone devotes their lives to making others happy. So I challenge you to take a look around you and ask yourself, what around me was constructed to make myself and others happy? That one simple question can change the way you look at the entire world for the better.
