A simple and free online calculator to convert kilometers to miles (km to mi). Includes the formula and a handy conversion chart for travel, running, and driving.
You’re planning a drive through Europe and the map says it's 300 kilometers to the next city. Is that a long haul? You've just signed up for a 10K charity run. How does that compare to your usual 5-mile jog?
Kilometers (km) are the standard unit of distance for most of the world, but if you're from the US or the UK, your brain is probably wired to think in miles. A kilometer-to-miles converter is a simple but essential tool for anyone who travels, runs, or just wants to make sense of distances in our global world.
This common conversion pops up all the time:
Travel: Understanding road signs and map distances when you're in another country.
Running & Fitness: Converting race distances (5K, 10K, Marathon) into miles to track your training.
Driving: Making sense of car specifications or driving directions that use kilometers.
Geography & Science: Working with data that uses the international standard metric system.
Get your answer in a fraction of a second:
Open the Converter: Go to the FreeXTool KM to Miles Converter.
Enter the Kilometers: Type the number of kilometers you want to convert into the input box.
Get the Miles: The tool will immediately show you the equivalent distance in miles.
5K (5 Kilometers) = 3.1 Miles
10K (10 Kilometers) = 6.2 Miles
Half Marathon (21.1K) = 13.1 Miles
Full Marathon (42.2K) = 26.2 Miles
Need a rough estimate without a calculator? Remember that a kilometer is a little more than half a mile. A simple trick is to multiply the kilometers by 0.6. For a more precise version: take the kilometers, divide by 2, and then add 10% of the original number. (Example: 100km -> 100/2=50. 10% of 100 is 10. 50+10=60. The actual answer is 62 miles, so this gets you very close!)
