We are often asked, "How much is your service?"
The answer depends upon which service is being offered.
For General Notary Work (GNW), the fees Notaries can charge are determined by the North Carolina Secretary of State.
A Notary may ONLY charge a maximum of $10.00 per notarized signature, plus round-trip mileage fees that are agreed upon in writing by the Client prior to the Appointment. Travel/mileage fees are set at the Federal level, which currently (2025) is $0.70 per mile. So if you have a car title notarized and there is only one signature notarized ($10) and travel is 40 miles round trip (40 X $0.70 = $28), the fees would be $38.00 total.
Loan Signings -which require additional training, insurance, printing, mailing, and scanning fees in addition to Notarizations- cost more than GNW. Those fees are typically negotiated between the Notary and whoever hires them (e.g. Signing Service, Title Company, Realty Brokerage, Law Firm, etc.).
