FreeFileSync is a free and open-source program used for file synchronization. It is available on Windows, Linux and macOS. The project is backed by donations. Donors get access to a Donation Edition that contains a few additional features such as an auto-updater, parallel sync, portable version, and silent installation.[2] FreeFileSync has received positive reviews.[3][4]

This image and template based on -novnc gives a FreeFileSync instance through a VNC connection. 2 paths can be mapped (presented in the container as /home/freefilesync/path1 resp. path2), be sure to only access things through those, writing somewhere else in the container filesystem would fill your Docker image really quickly.

Question about filesync and using it to sync two unraid servers , before one of my servers crashed i had this working but not now, i am having to mount one folder at a time and before i could mount the root shares and use freefilesync and it would show all the folders for me at one time to sync, So i was hoping someone could let me know what im missing or doing wrong

What paths have you given in the freefilesync template? For remote mounts you might need to give the mounted folder instead of an upper level, and/or edit the path variable and change type to Slave mode

Well.. The paths you wanted i thought were listed on the pic below freefilesync screenshot above. Both are linked to /mnt: the remote mount to itself is created when i use the add Root Share, which i assumed means it puts all your shares under one link to avoid having to do individual links to each share of that unraid server and use its Remote Root Share to get all of the shares under one link in freefilesync. etc

so after going over this i guess the problem im having is when i add a remote share on server #1 (the pic below) it doesn't show the Root Share user.pool.col2 for server 2, just the individual shares. if the remote share could find server 2's user.pool.col2 in the list added below i think it would work for sure, I am not sure why or how to get freefilesync docker itself to list all the SMB Shares by putting in a link like SMB:\\ip address or colossus-mk-2 in the box directly using the network directly

Ok after some quality google time and thinking about what Kilrah said ... i believe i found out what i did last time to get my all my shares to show in freefilesync with 2 unraid servers, This spaceinvaderone video gave me the how 2 to create the rootshare

I discovered over the last couple days that if you donate to FreeFileSync to download the donation version, you get a benefit I've found to be really useful: multi-threaded parallel comparison and copying. I think it's worth giving a few dollars for this feature. Once you install the donation edition, click on the gear settings icon next to the "Compare" button, and edit the "Parallel file operations" box to set the number of threads it will use to 1~2x the number of cores you have. Ex: I might set it to 8 threads if my computer has 4 or 6 cores. FreeFileSync mentions parallel operations here: =performance. Even though the setting is under the "Compare" gear settings, it affects and speeds up copying/syncing too.

We all know it is important to keep multiple backups of our computer systems but for many small businesses, the owner may not know how due to lack of knowledge and/or cost consideration. Ever since I discovered about this software, I am full of praises for it. Being free (donations welcomed), you cannot complain about the price. It supports Windows, Mac and Linux systems so another big plus there for any business. What I like most about it is that it has advanced features which will meet most if not all of the needs of even the most demanding user. You can set it to sync files meeting certain criteria (e.g. only those with .DOC extensions); you can then specify whether to do a mirror sync (one-way) or a full-time sync (two-way); you can set it to perform the task at a preset time or in real-time (though I haven't tried this yet). Now, you really have no excuse not to make a backup of your system!

Comments:This software runs on a scheduled task probably 20 times per day, backing up network drives to other storage, and multiple forms of cloud storage. With the exception of an occasional file name error when going from Mac to Windows file shares, the program works flawlessly. I use the donation version which allows more simultaneous threads for speedier transfers and it works really, really well. For the price, it can't be beaten! And the free version is just as powerful, albeit a bit slower.

Pros: It does two-way synchronization. It is free and is relatively easy to use. I used Microsoft's SyncToy for a few years until Microsoft stopped supporting it, so I searched around and found FreeFilesync. FreeFileSync does what it claims to do and so far I have been able to sync my documents without any problem. I also like it that the software is open-source.Neutral: The free version of course comes with limitations. For instance, it does not have the "parallel file copy" option." I assume one can do this manually anyways.* The "donation version" has more belts and whistles. The software will regularly remind you to auto-update or download the donation version. The good news is that you can decide the donation amount. If you feel like you want to support this open-source software, you can decide how much you are willing to spare as compared to paying a fixed price.

NOTE: FreeFileSync allows you to open files in external applications or run custom scripts. However, when sandboxed as Flatpak, external applications or scripts from your host system are not accessible. If you want to give FreeFileSync access to your host applications/commands, run "flatpak override --user --socket=session-bus org.freefilesync.FreeFileSync" in terminal to give it access to your session DBus (or you can use Flatseal to configure app permissions). Now you can run any app/command, if you prefix it with "flatpak-spawn --host", i.e. "flatpak-spawn --host mycommand arguments".

Recently, the author added the possibility to download future updates of the "Donors Edition" version until a date that depends on the amount of your donation.

A small donation is enough to download this version, but more you give money, more this page will remain available for long. The chart is available in the site's FAQ.

That said, the downloaded program will continue to work after that date. 17dc91bb1f
