I realize that Squarespace doesn't control whether the background video is shown on mobile devices - it is controlled by the mobile browser, and I have suggested to them that they change the resolution of the video to 720 instead of 1080 to see if that makes the video small enough for more mobile devices to process but they are pushing back, saying "to have beautiful high-res videos and not be able to share them is disappointing. The browsers that we've noticed aren't supporting the videos are actually on NEW phones, not old ones, so I don't think the problem is going to go away until there's a squarespace solution. I'd love to figure out a game plan for how to find a fix as soon as possible." I don't know what "fix" there is, other than what I've already suggested (and they haven't tried). The feature is not designed for high-resolution video streaming, I don't think. Has anyone encountered this issue or have any insight?

Has anyone actually gotten video backgrounds on mobile to work successfully? I've reached out to Squarespace 3 times and each time they cite Vimeo and Youtube as the source of potential problems, but everything's been done to their specs, so I'm not sure what the problem is.

With mobile, it's 50/50. That's why the mobile fallback image is suggested, you could use a .gif to replicate a video-like effect but I've had video banners play on an iPhone XS but not on an iPhone 7 for example.

Hi, I've seen quite a few sites in which background video (autoplay, mute, filling screen) works fine on mobile. So it's clearly possible.

But i can't get it to work on squarespace. Is there a workaround? Is a plugin required? Has anyone figured this out?

I have this code below in my Custom CSS that does a nice job of reducing the title font for mobile, but it doesn't appear to affect the top 2 words of the title ('South Florida'). Also, that text is within a markdown box, which is perhaps a part of my issue?

Hello, I'm also trying to do the 2 videos on my homepage and only show 1 for mobile / 1 for desktop. I have those videos ready on the page and just need the custom code -- how do I share a private link for someone to help here?

Sorry not able to provide a sample video on mobile. It happens across multiple resolutions also. It literally does it to all videos played through the Brave browser though every other application plays videos fine. Not sure what happened in the recent update this week but it definitely has done something to video playback.

Hi again! We wanted to check in to see if you were able to delete and/or unsync your files in your mobile app with the steps we provided. Just let us know if you need any more help, we're here for you!

I have, unfortunately, done the same thing as above. I took photos, synced them with the mobile app, and then deleted them from the quest device without unsyncing them. I really do not want to factory reset my device and lose any other data, I just want to remove the photos from the mobile app. Is there any way to do that?

Thank you for your response. The problem, however, is that I have deleted them from the headset without first unsyncing them from the mobile app. The pictures are no longer available on the headset but they are still in the mobile app. How do I remove them from the mobile app?

There have been multiple topics in this forum regarding this problem over the years. However, not many have come to a solution. Some found a workaround through custom code some years back, but none of those seem to work anymore. I was wondering if anyone has found a way to make background videos auto-play on mobile devices (it works on some android devices), without having to replace the video with a gif or just a static picture on mobile landscape. Excited to see what people have done regarding this problem in 2020!

You can upload videos to YouTube in a few easy steps. Use the instructions below to upload your videos from a computer or from a mobile device. Uploading may not be available with supervised experiences on YouTube. Learn more here.

I have problems to get a video to play on my Android mobile in the latest version of Chrome. In other browsers like the Puffin browser the video is playing. For test purposes I tried all common formats:

I've been debugging html5 video playback on Chrome desktop and mobile on an Android 5.0.1 Samsung S4 with Chrome 61 and the embedded browser, and Safari 9 & 11, using an automatic javascript play/pause written in AngularJS (below). The video is embedded in a carousel so is sometimes visible, sometimes not. In summary:

The problem with your play button on your background video could be your OS. In the past mobile OS would not display background videos because they will drain too much power, newer devices with the latests OS do display them now. So, I would suggest you to update your OS or test it on other devices to see if that is the problem. Also if your device is on lower power mode it would not display the background animation. I hope this helps.

Recent research into mobile video consumption behavior illustrates a change in human behavior that has implications for the shifting media landscape. Data shows that, unsurprisingly, rather than keep the sound on, 63% of people keep their phone on mute.

In 2021, brands are planning to allocate more than half of their overall video advertising budget to digital videos, and 75% of video ads will be watched on mobile devices. In a world where mobile video is largely muted, brands and agencies must adapt their creative strategies to that reality.

Vertical video is the latest trend in digital marketing because it effectively captures the attention of mobile audiences. With more people consuming content on their phones, the use of vertical video has significantly increased.

First of all, vertical video makes life easier for mobile viewers. No more having to rotate or zoom in on your phone to get a decent view. This means people are more likely to stick around and engage with your content.

Verizon is modifying their "unlimited" data plans. Customers in the USA can stream video at 480p -or- pay to unlock higher resolutions (both 720p and +1080p). They are not the only mobile carrier to implement rules like this.

Verizon acknowledged using a new video optimization system but said it is part of a temporary test and that it did not affect the actual quality of video. The video optimization appears to apply both to unlimited and limited mobile plans.

So the provider automatically sets the APN on your mobile device. The internet traffic is send from your mobile device to the APN. The provider can use any commercial traffic shaping software to control video (from FB/YT/etc) streaming.Even if the connection is encrypted you can see from the way the buffering works what video resolution is used, videos download parts in chunks which create a destinct pattern. So if these chunks get bigger the video resolution is higher, with traffic shaping software you can probably regulate these download patterns. When using a VPN the provider cannot determine what kind of data is send over the VPN. He could still see the chunk pattern but limiting all data via VPN would cause your total download speed to be lower and I assume that is against the agreed speed mentioned in your contract.

Outlook mobile apps rewrite URLs to safe links which are forced to open in a browser before rendering in the mobile app. Organization IT admins can add Stream (Classic) video URLs to a safe senders list in Outlook by following the directions in Safe Link policies.

IT admins can enforce new or existing Intune policies on the Stream (Classic) mobile apps through the Azure portal. For steps to assign Intune policies to your organization's enterprise apps, see Create a device compliance policy.

Hi all,

Some of our projects involve participants listening to a large array of audio clips that are set to autoplay once. I have read here ( -videos-from-files-library) that mobile devices restrict autoplay features to avoid too much data being used without owner's consent. I have experienced issues with audio clips for this particular reason, but what could a reason be for some participants also experiencing a similar issue when using different browsers on a laptop/PC?

For the project we run, we advise people to use Google Chrome as we found this to be the most reliable (compared to other browsers such as Safari, Edge etc.), but some people have experienced audio issues with this too. Is it a matter of not having an updated browser, or an old device/operating system? Or is there something else that could make audio clips not fail to generate as much?

Note - most of the time it works perfectly, but to optimise our projects, we obviously would like a more efficient way of including the audio clips without them failing to play.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance.
