I think this is such a great idea for making a unique strip quilt! The Easy Stripe quilt tutorial uses 2-inch strips which are pastel colors and then there is an accent of a very bold color. I really like the way the red stands out. The quilt finishes at 58-inches x 80-inches.

This cute quilt from All People Quilt would make the perfect baby gift! It uses 5-inch squares and a piece of background fabric! The quilt size is 36-inches x 45-inches. If you wanted to use just one width of fabric for the backing, it would be easy to make the borders a little smaller.

This is a colorful quilt that uses four charm square packs or grab some a bunch of fat quarters in all kinds of fun colors and a neutral sashing fabric. You could also use Jelly Rolls or Layer cakes. This quilt/project finishes at 53-inches x 70-inches.

Here is a beautiful braided strip quilt tutorial that you can find at Anne & Will. She first saw a fabric designed like this and then created the quilt. The size is 45-inches x 60-inches. Choose your own colors and fabrics for a very unique look. It would be very easy to change the size of the strips and make a smaller or larger quilt.

Using Jelly Rolls is always fun and the Jelly Roll Magic quilt is another fast and easy quilt to make that you can find at Moda Fabrics. This quilt finishes at 53-inches x 67-inches and is made with one Jelly Roll and a charm pack.

Batik Strips & Squares is a beautiful quilt from All People Quilt that is made from nine simple blocks. The finished quilt size is 31-inches square and the blocks are 8-inch square. It would be very easy to make this larger by making more quilt blocks.

Quilts that take no time to make are always a favorite with me.d The Stacked Strips crib quilt would be fun to make. I would really like to make this in bright batiks! The finished quilt is 38-inches x 54-inches.

Allison Jensen of Woodberry Way shared this beautiful quilt and tutorial on Moda Fabrics. This is one of my favorite quilt blocks and I have used it in many quilt projects. Her quilt finishes at 48-inches x 56-inches and is a perfect crib size.

Quirky Granola Girl shared this neat tutorial for the Four Corner quilt which is a great way to use Jelly Roll strips. The finished size is about 56-inches square. You only have to make four large blocks that are joined to a small center block.

Baby quilts are always fun to make and the Briar Rose strip quilt is a super cute pattern from Taylor Made Creates! She uses four-inch strips cut from fat quarters. In her tutorial, she uses a -inch seam allowance but I would use a -inch seam allowance if I was making it.

Thank you. I have been saving my scraps , cutting them into 2.5 inch strips. 3 inch strips and various sized squares. I have a box of them neatly sorted into zip lock bags. These quilts would be perfect.

Connie thanks for listing these simple jelly roll quilt patterns. I have a few of them saved already but a few are new to me. I made my inner self agree that we are no longer hoarding nor saving nor not using fabrics. I buy then to use right? Well some of them I have had a few years to gaze at so time to get busy. Some of these patterns will help that progress along.

I used some leftover shot cotton that was in my stash but most quilters recommend using something nice and thin like muslin. I do agree that the thinner the better because this quilt will end up a little thicker and heavier with that extra layer of fabric.

I started this quilt a few years ago by making a few blocks. The first couple of blocks used a paper foundation but I quickly realized I did not want to bother removing all of that paper so I quickly switched to fabric.

This quilt ends up with a lot of seams and when the strips are on the vertical like this it might be more prone to shifting and stretching. I personally liked the foundation square for the stability and my blocks were trimmed nice and crisp and stayed that way.

I started keeping string scraps several years ago to make a string quilt. I separate them out from my regular scrap bins and store them all together in this large basket. Everything gets mixed by color and whenever I have new strings I add them to the basket.

Once I started making these blocks again it only took a few weeks to finish this quilt. I found that I liked working on them 5 at a time. They go a little faster when you make more than one at a time.

I debated about quilting this scrappy string quilt myself or sending it off to be quilted. In the end I decided to send it to Modern Textiles because I knew we would be using it and so I thought it deserved a pretty quilt design.

We chose the Wishbone pantograph on this string quilt because it is a looser quilting design that would make it easier with all of those seams and layers! Katie told me it quilted up just fine and there were no seam issues.

One hiccup quilters have sometimes is discovering that they have accumulated a whole lot of scrap strips fabric. Luckily there are strip quilt patterns you can follow to easily use up all that scrap quilting fabric.

This baby quilt started with random strips sewed into one continuous strip. After I pressing all the seams down, the big strip was cut into smaller strips that were all the same width and then laid out.

The American Notebook Strip Quilt is a great combination of a scrap quilt pattern, a rainbow quilt pattern, a strip quilt pattern, and of course a charm pack quilt pattern! Take your leftover charm packs and binding strips to make this adorable throw blanket or lap quilt.

I decided to focus mostly on the black, white and gray prints, with just a little bit of color thrown in. But this would be a fun project mixing all the colors in the collection for a really colorful quilt too.

Flip your fabric around so that your newly-squared-edge is now on your left side. This way you can use your ruler to accurately measure and cut your strips. Place the ruler at the desired width of fabric and cut using a rotary cutter. This will give you a nice, straight strip instead of something crooked or V-shaped. (These are obviously instructions geared at right-handed folks. If you are left-handed, do the opposite. If you are left-handed, you are probably already a pro at figuring out that kind of thing.)

I have a tutorial on my blog with tips for cutting strips. You definitely need to square-up the fabric edges before you cut your width-of-fabric strips, otherwise you will have crooked strips or strips in a slight V shape, instead of straight across.

In my opinion, one of the things that makes a strips quilt interesting is a variety of strip-widths and a variety of scale in the prints used. So if you use this tutorial with other fabrics, keep that in mind.

Press all seams one direction. Carefully square off selvage edges and square-up quilt sides. (Tip: Line up horizontal ruler markings on top of seams to keep sides square.) Quilt top needs to measure smaller than quilt back in all directions.

Love the pictures of that quilt at the grand canyon! WOW, does that set it all off or what? Really pretty-you highlighted this fabric well using this pattern. And now we know what you were working on in the car!!

Amy, I have searched high and low over at the Riley Blake site as well as your tutorial to find the cutting instructions and fabric requirements to make this quilt. I love it and want to make it for a dear friend. Can you please help me find the link?

By any chance could you repost the tutorial for this quilt or the instructions? I love your quilt and just attempted to find it on the Riley Blake blog and am unable to find it. Please! I would love to be able to make this this weekend! Thank you

There are a few different ways to make these diagonal quilt blocks...but by far my favorite method is this tube method below. These are fairly easy blocks to make, but I wouldn't recommend this quilt to a brand new quilter as there are tons of bias (stretchy) edges to deal with. Read through the tutorial before you cut all your strips so you know what you're in for!

I'm going to take you through making one "tube", which yields 6 blocks. At the end of this tutorial you'll find a chart with sizes, and the amount of strips you'll need for each. Use a " seam allowance for steps below.

After you are done making this quilt top I highly recommend stay stitching (normal stitches/stitch length is fine) around the edges to prevent them from stretching during finishing. I always add stay stitching to every quilt top!

Thank you for doing all the work to make this tutorial ?! I know it was a lot of work, and I wouldmuchrather have it to use than a video. I loveJennys videos on MSQS but they're so quick and abbreviated that I need to rewind them constantly to actually make anything using them. I would much rather have your super clear and orderly tutorials (or patterns, for that matter) to use. Your quilt is so bright and pleasing and inspiring I'm going to start today making a twin size like it just for ME using a couple jelly rolls--and I hope you have a really nice day, too, doing something fun (maybe styling Jane's hair (like playing Barbie dolls?)--Just teasing, of course ! Katie S.

Thank you for the tutorial. I had not seen the block done this way. It sure is lots easier than paper piecing the blocks. I like having the strips the same size so that the points intersect, too. Some of the patterns that I have seen, have you use any width of fabric for the strips and then the points do not necessarily intersect. I love the diagonal in the blocks - keeps the eye moving.

This is such a pretty top. Thanks for sharing the technique. Tube quilts are fun to make. I just finished a Summer In The Park from MSQC so I'm a bit 'tubed out' right now but I do have a jelly roll that would be great for this.

I love how this quilt turned out! I've never made a strip quilt because I didn't want to foundation piece, but this is much simpler! Gotta have a good Netflix binge going for all those long strip seams ;) but a stunning result for all that effort! 2351a5e196
