About

Goal

  • Create a path towards a mesh network in the Shire, and then implement it in West Manchester, so that:
    • We have neutral, resilient, and redundant access points to our fellow Shiremen and humans everywhere
      • mesh network nodes connect to as many other nodes as possible, creating multiple paths between nodes
      • multiple connection types between nodes such as wifi, fiber, radio, and tunneling
      • multiple routes to the internet such as cable, dsl, cellular, internet exchange
    • We can have local services for our fellow Shiremen
      • email, chat, pages, office
      • human knowledge repositories such as Wikipedia, Wikisource, OpenStreetMap, TED, StackExchange, Project Gutenberg
    • We have our own mesh network to join, and an example of how to do it
    • To serve us in times of peace and in times of network disruption
      • natural disasters, war, censorship via threats or isolation

Who

  • Liberty activist. Mostly participants in the great liberty immigration to the Shire. Open to all.

What

  • Creating a plan, which means studying so we can answer so many questions on
    • Cost
    • Profit
    • Hardware
    • Software
    • Organization
    • Governance

Where

  • The target location for recruiting or testing is West Manchester, New Hampshire.
  • West Manchester has a high concentration of real estate owned by people supportive of individual rights and decentralization. These individuals may be targets for censorship and are likely advocates of decentralization and privacy. They also have roofs.

When

  • Working Timeline:
    • 1Q 2018: Set goal, select hardware, determine feasibility
    • 2Q 2018: Chose team, select governance, plan, fund
    • 2H 2018: Installing nodes and testing MeshNet
    • 1H 2019: Activating nodes
    • Design and implement pay-with-crypto access to high speed internet.
    • Install and activate Supernodes

Why

  • Humans under the mind altering affects of a perceived authority have historically resorted to drastic measures when their power is perceived to be threatened. In order to prevent an attack the option must be brought off the table. Blockchain cryptography took the control-of-money option off the table, mostly. Mutually Assured Destruction doesn't bring an option off the table, it merely ensures more violence (defensive force) should an offense occur. We can be targeted in many ways. One such way is through a network attack. Targeting communications networks, access to data, censoring, and targeting or tracking usage of other networks such as Tor, or blockchains. We must set up resilient systems now so that when someone means to attack us, they find themselves lacking vectors. We will take the option of attacking our communications network, or targeting activity on the network, off the table.
