I've seen this question asked two years ago How to switch slots without a computer or using TWRP? which asks for the same on Android 9,but with so many tools being developed (and abandoned) and changes in Android versions , is it possible now?
With generous help from Irfan-Latif (see chat) bootctl binary was a candidate. Unfortunately, it doesn't change slots as expected but at the same time doesn't throw up any errors. The reason for this is probably it is not updated to SDK 33. That's also probably why the apps mentioned in the question haven't been updated.

I can only speak for the difference between android's intent and iOS - have never done anything in QT, but here we go:
Intents are (at least to my knowledge) mostly used to signal changing state of the phone or to change the life-cycle-state of different objects. They are not commonly used for finer granularity stuff like notification of changed vales and such.
In iOS, the Notification System exists for both fine-granular and coarse-grained information (aka. system state and even model changes) - but it functions quite differently.
Some Android devices contain multiple "slots" for system data, this is implemented by duplicating important partitions such as system, vendor, boot and some others. You can tell if a partition is "slotted" as its name will end in _a or _b and there will be a matching pair (you can see an example A/B partition map here).
