Our coalition is made up of individuals who are formerly incarcerated, have a loved one incarcerated, and care about changing our criminal legal system.

Many coalition members are also a part of CADBI, Human Rights Coalition, Abolitionist Law Center, Straight Ahead, Amistad Law Project, Healing Communities and other networks.

We are fighting to end death by incarceration (DBI), also known as mandatory life without parole sentences. We believe that all people should have the opportunity to access pathways home from prison. We do this through legislative engagement.

Legislators have the power to create and pass laws. Many are not fully informed about our carceral system. In our meetings with politicians, we educate them about personal experiences and facts on DBI.

It is a long process to get a bill to be inscribed in law. To become a law, a bill must receive a majority of votes by the House and Senate. In meetings with legislators, we ask them to cosponsor and vote in support of specific bills on our agenda.

We began meeting with Pennsylvania State House and Senate members in 2023, and we have met with almost every state legislator. Recently, our medical release bill (HB150) passed in the Pennsylvania House. We are currently meeting with Senators to push it through the Senate.
