"'I Won't Give Up' was written selfishly. As many of my songs are, I write for the purpose of understanding what the hell's going on in my life, my position in the world, processing that lesson and that miracle that I'm learning. Seeing it on the page, proving to myself that I understand the lesson, that I'm applying it to my life, and that I can move on. Ultimately it was about, you know, regardless of what happens in this relationship, I don't have to give up on loving this person, or loving myself, or give up on whatever my dreams are. Even though it's written through the filter of relationships, it's not necessarily specific for relationships. For me, the true meaning exists in the bridge saying 'I don't want to be someone who walks away so easily, I'm here to stay and make a difference.' That is for all of us. We all have something that we're fighting for or that we're striving for. Whether we want to coach our soccer team to victory or lose five pounds in a month, whatever it is, there's nothing too small worth fighting for and there's nothing too big worth going after."[3]

"I Won't Give Up" was written by Jason Mraz and Michael Natter, while production was handled by Joe Chiccarelli.[4] The acoustic folk blues[5] and folk-pop[6] ballad features a slower tempo and a sparse arrangement written in the key of E major.[2] Lyrically, it is a poignant ode to a long-lasting relationship, which Mraz says he won't give up on her whatever happens.[7] "Well, I won't give up on us/Even if the skies get rough/I'm giving you all my love/I'm still looking up," he sings.[3] It is guitar led with some additional vocal landscapes towards the end of the song. Mraz told Billboard magazine: "That, to me, has always been my favorite part of making music; the singing and what voices can do and the voices singing in harmony."[7] It is likely that the song was inspired by Mraz's relationship with singer-songwriter Tristan Prettyman. Mraz showcases his light and versatile range singing from B2 to G#4.

Well, I won't give up on us (no, I'm not giving up)

God knows I'm tough enough (I am tough, I am loved)

We got a lot to learn (we're alive, we are loved)

God knows we're worth it (and we're worth it)

I saw this song as Jason Mraz's view on humans beings in general and their relationship with the slowly evolving world and God.I feel he is talking about God and how he doesnt give up on us. He loves us unconditionally. He then decides he wont give up on us either. He views humans as something special, because if God has faith in us then why shouldnt he?There good in all of us and for all of us, and we should all help each other out. Were in this together.

I think of my son with autism when i hear this song. All the years of fighting (the school system), the feeling of wanting to run away and and change my name sometimes because it all gets too much (the the frustration, worry and heartache) but then my son looks at me in a certain way, my mother's heart aches with love for him, and I know, I won't give up. Ever.

@Mortalias OMG!! THANKYOU!!! I am a single gay dad and I've raised my child since 9mths old. He will be 16 this month and for the next 28 days until his birthday I'll be weeping, grieving, rejoicing, reflecting, anticipating, worrying etc. Everything you said is EXACTLY how I'm feeling, and I pray I've given my baby boy the best foundations to be a man, the very best man he can be! I know he's gonna leave me soon, I know the world will, as it does for everyone sooner or later, break his heart, I could never weigh him down with the worries

most people would tell me to just leave it alone but thats giving up too easily. i know i may not be her boyfriend but if i can atleast stay being friends, maybe one day she will realize that i am a great guy. i know there are many women out there but sometimes you find the one thats worth your time and no one else matters. you cant just give up on love that easily, sometimes you have to reach for the stars even if you dont know if youll actually get one.

Here's one more reason to hold your heart in check. Imagine she WAS your girlfriend. And imagine she WAS the woman of your dreams. And now imagine she catches the bus everyday with a guy who hopes to one day slow but surely win her heart over. How does that make you feel?

So no, you shouldn't give up. You shouldn't give up on the hope that you will, in due time find someone who you can connect with, who is available.

pls if you do become her bf, dont be like jason mraz: he wrote that song then... he broke off engagement as he did know what he wanted and left for his art... i love his art but i m v disappointed by him as a man now and this song only reminds me how fickle men can be and how they break hearts.. so if you sing that song to that girl, in your mind, do mean it, do mean it.. not like jason

Here it made me think of all the struggles she had to go through, and it reminded me of how she handled them. My mother was a very positive woman, always grateful for every day God had given her. Making the best out of the worst circumstances, and there is no doubt in my mind that she is right where she ought to be, in Heaven!

Saw him perform this at Carnegie Hall with Toca and it was incredible. Made me appreciate my wife even more knowing that we've been through so much stuff lately with our animals and despite frustration, we stuck together and didn't give up -- not on each-other nor on our guys. 0852c4b9a8
