I had a story where I created a UI action on a form, which generated and attached a PDF to that record. The PDF contained a table that I built myself using a script include, containing data from that record and any related records. However, now the clients are asking if it's possible to have it generate an Excel file instead. Is it possible to have an excel "template" somewhere that I can access and then inject the data when I click that UI action? I need to also be able to query related records and grab data from there.

I have a shiny app where users enter data and then click an action button to submit that data into a database. I also have a download button that lets them download a copy of the data locally as a csv.

What I am trying to now achieve is have that data automatically download when the user clicks the action button. I have looked online and couldn't find much info this. Any help or thoughts is apprecaited.

The app includes an action button that simulates a process of writing data to a database and then downloading the processed data as a CSV file. The processData function takes the input data and transforms it (in this case, it changes the column names to all uppercase; I kept that the same from the other example answer). The checkData function always returns TRUE, but you can customize it to check the validity of your data.

When the action button is clicked, a progress bar appears with a message indicating that the app is working. After a few seconds of delay, the data is processed, and the download button is automatically clicked (using JavaScript) to download the .csv file. If the data is invalid, it could throw an alert message using shinyBS::createAlert, shinyWidgets::sendSweetAlert functions etc (the code doesn't include this functionality, I just wrote in the same comment from the other answer).

The solution is mainly to hide the download button by default using a conditionalPanel with "false" as the condition. This ensures that the download button only appears after the user clicks the action button and the data is processed successfully.

If Firefox does not have a set download action for a type of file, Firefox will save the file by default. If you select Always Open Similar Files in the Downloads panel right-click context menu for the file, (see below) a new Content Type and Action entry will be added to the General panel Applications section of Firefox settings.

When you click on a link to download a file and Firefox doesn't have a content type and download action set up for that type of file, Firefox will save the file by default. If you want Firefox to ask you what to do with these downloads, you can go to the bottom of the Applications section under What should Firefox do with other files? and select Ask whether to open or save files.

When you choose Ask whether to open or save files in Firefox settings under Applications (as shown above) and you download a file with no defined content type and action, you will see a What should Firefox do with this file? prompt. When you choose an action and also select the option, Do this automatically for files like this from now on, a new Content Type and Action entry will be added to the Applications list for that type of file. See the "What should Firefox do with this file?" prompt section below, for more information.

When you select Always Open Similar Files from the context menu for a downloaded item, the file will open in the system default application and a new Content Type entry will be added to the Applications section of Firefox settings, with the download action set to use that application. The next time you download that type of file and open the context menu, the Always Open Similar Files option will be check marked.

If you change the action for a defined file type to Always ask or if you select Ask whether to open or save files for other files not listed in the Applications section of Firefox settings (see above), you will see a What should Firefox do with this file? prompt for those downloaded files.

If you are having problems with how Firefox is handling file downloads that you can't resolve, or if you just want to start fresh, you can restore the default content types and actions by refreshing Firefox. To learn more, see Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings.

Artifacts allow you to persist data after a job has completed, and share that data with another job in the same workflow. An artifact is a file or collection of files produced during a workflow run. For example, you can use artifacts to save your build and test output after a workflow run has ended. All actions and workflows called within a run have write access to that run's artifacts.

You can use the upload-artifact action to upload artifacts. When uploading an artifact, you can specify a single file or directory, or multiple files or directories. You can also exclude certain files or directories, and use wildcard patterns. We recommend that you provide a name for an artifact, but if no name is provided then artifact will be used as the default name. For more information on syntax, see the actions/upload-artifact action.

You can define a custom retention period for individual artifacts created by a workflow. When using a workflow to create a new artifact, you can use retention-days with the upload-artifact action. This example demonstrates how to set a custom retention period of 5 days for the artifact named my-artifact:

You can use the upload-artifact and download-artifact actions to share data between jobs in a workflow. This example workflow illustrates how to pass data between jobs in the same workflow. For more information, see the actions/upload-artifact and download-artifact actions.

Deferred action is an act of prosecutorial discretion to defer removal of an individual. Individuals who receive deferred action will not be removed from the United States for a specified period of time, unless the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) chooses to terminate the grant of deferred action. Individuals filing Form I-821D must also file Form I-765, Application for Employment Authorization, and Form I-765WS, Worksheet (PDF, 246.96 KB).

I have run into this issue with a few web apps: There is a page that displays some data, and the user needs to have the ability to retrieve a file of the same data (typically as an Excel spreadsheet). I am wondering what an action button that does this should be called.

From what I can tell, the most technically correct wording for this button would be "Export and Download" since the app is converting the data to a new format (export) and then giving it to the user (download). But for UX what is the most user-friendly/well-understood wording for this action?

'Export to Excel'/'Export to PDF' is used when the action indicates that the user can export the data into a spreadsheet to perform some additional processing for his/her informational purpose. Note that in the case of MS SharePoint, the Export to Excel option will actually allow users to query list data through Excel, but this will involve a connection to the associated source list/library.

You can download Windows developments snapshots (MSI installers) from here (Index of /downloads/snapshots/github-actions/openvpn2/ ). Those are automatically built from commits to OpenVPN master branch and include functionality which will be available in the next release. Development snapshots are less stable than releases, so use at your own risk.

In summary: Google Drive is changing how some of its content is served and downloaded. If you are embedding Drive files in your apps via a drive.google.com/uc URL, you will need to update those URLs wherever they are stored by May 1st. We will also reach out directly to affected app owners and notify them that action will be required.
