I just updated my Macbook Air to Sonoma 14.3. I would like to download VLC Media player as this machine will not play RAM or WMA files. I tried from VLC and a few other sites, but get strange messages. Any hints?

Try downloading VLC while booted into Safe Mode. If this works, then it means you have some third party software installed which is interfering with the normal operation of macOS. Typical culprits are anti-virus apps, cleaning/optimizer apps, and third party security software....none of which are needed on a Mac. These types of apps usually cause more problems than they solve. Thanks, but this seems to be availabe for Windows 64bit, iOS, iPad iOS, and Apple TV. When clicking on VLC 3.0.20, it leads to a News Archive page. Clicking on the VLC 3.0.20 what appears to be a link does nothing. I also tried downloading for Mac OSX, and it looks like it just leads to other sites. I tried both again in safe mode with same results. I did not put any third party apps nor anything on this machine.

It has been more than one week, and Firefox has started opening any downloaded file with VLC media player, even if I change the source of opening the file. In the next download, it will open again with VLC media player. What should I do?

The best solution for #2 is to use something like the Music App. It has server/media playback support for the Subsonic API, which then you can leverage a local app, I use Audinaut, which supports that API to stream music. You can keep local copies of the songs since the app will do that for you after you play them.

So I recently downloaded a mod for sims 4, and (this happens a lot with cc n stuff) and it is a windows media player file thing. I press it to see if I can do anything and it just takes me to windows media player. So since that does nothing I put it in my mods folder but it doesnt go into the game. Have you used many game mods before or just cc? A lot of 'plain' cc, doesn't need extracting as it's a package file to begin with. It sounds to me like you may have just 'clicked' to open or something like that, or your computer has 'chosen' the player to identify it since it's not something it's dealt with before.

I tried installing mplayer using pacman - several files downloaded successfully, I watched the progress bars... but others couldn't be found. When I try again using a different mirror, from the output you can see that pacman requests 36 installation files for mplayer but it can't locate 14 of them.

I use Gmail and when using Google Chrome if there was an mp4 file attached to my email all I had to do was click on it and it would download tit o be played by my default media player. Now when I click the attachment it wants to save it to a folder.
