So I've made a macro using Macro Express 3.9.1.1. This macro is intended for a video game emulator called Visual Boy Advance which emulates a Gameboy Advance. This macro is intended to make the character do repetitive, cyclical movements, attacks, etc. However, when I try to play the macro back, the emulator seems to receive no inputs at all from the macro. I tried running the macro on MS Word and Excel and it works fine.

Well, I'm using Windows 7. I tried your suggestions and ran Macro Express as an admin but I see no change. I had previously tried restoring keyboard and mouse hooks (a tip that I found from another forum). Still, the emulator seems to take no response from the macro.

Hello all, just looking to see if anyone has an answer to a problem I've had. I'm new to Launchbox and trying to put something together for a friend. The long story is that I began my Launchbox adventure attempting to build a system simply with Retroarch, but when I decided I wanted arcade games to play with an arcade control panel but have console and handheld games control with joypads, I found it difficult (if not impossible) to configure it in a way that would see various cores use various controllers in the Player 1 position. So, instead I split things up into various emulators instead. For simplicity on the user, I've decided to only use emulators that have been found to work with Launchbox's pause menu (using the main Googledoc as a reference: =1650496698).

So, for Gameboy and various nintendo handhelds, VisualBoyAdvance-M is the recommended emulator, but unfortunately I am having great difficulty finding a way to make this program open in fullscreen and stay that way. I've tried exiting a game in fullscreen with alt+f4, and although this causes the next game to open in fullscreen - once you escape from a game in Launchbox, you're back to a small window.

I've tried using -f-4, and even grasping at straws and using -fullscreen and such within command line parameters, but this simply gives me an error.

Would autohotkey provide any potential results? Is there a resource that I could learn more about this?

Also, I hope this is the right section to be asking! Thanks for anyone's time or recommendations.

Not sure about what version you are using, but I just tried the emulator and it has a "Start in Fullscreen" option. With that ticked it worked without issue. I do not use this emulator so not sure if what I have is old or the latest version.

If that does not work for you, try putting the AHK below in the "Running Auto Hot Key" tab in your emulator setup within Launchbox. I believe when you use the controller automation in Launchbox it sends Escape which is why you see it dropping out of fullscreen when you use it. This AHK will make Escape key act as Alt+F4.

I have VisualBoyAdvance-M v 2.0.0, and under Options > Video there is only a "Select fullscreen mode..." option here and it does not allow you to auto-start in fullscreen, nor open games in fullscreen. The options refer to color depth, device, resolution, and refresh rate. At this point, I'm willing to lose pause menu options in favor of simply an emulator that remains fullscreen with few issues. I found KIGB works well for all GB systems except the Gameboy Advance. So, worst case scenario, I may scrap GBA from this setup until some point in the future.

I tried the AHK, but unfortunately received this error:

It sounds like the easiest thing for you to do is just use the standalone MAME for Arcade, and just use Retroarch for everything else. Changing to standalone emulators for all the systems Retroarch does, in order to still use MAME in retroarch seems a strange way around of doing things to me.

You are a king, sir, and I'm an idiot. God only knows how I kept searching out all of this information and didn't find out that my version of the emulator wasn't the latest. Yeesh. Sorry, again, for my stupidity, hopefully somehow I'll find a way to actually contribute to this awesome community!

There is an alternative called VBA-M which doesn't have this problem and features easy-to-use GUI. You can get a pre-compiled package from PlayDeb (as of October 2014, available for any Ubuntu version between 10.04 and 14.10). It should work in older hardware as well.Alternatively, you can try RetroArch with VBA core, which appears to be based on newer versions of VBA-M.Pre-compiled packages are available for Ubuntu 12.04 through 14.04 in hunterk PPA. The package name for emulator is "retroarch" and VBA core is either "libretro-vba" or "libretro-vba-next", depending on your Ubuntu version.

VisualBoyAdvance (commonly abbreviated as VBA) is a free emulator of the Game Boy, Game Boy Color, and Game Boy Advance handheld game consoles[2] as well as of Super Game Boy and Super Game Boy 2.

The VisualBoyAdvance project was started by a developer under the online alias "Forgotten".[6][better source needed] When this person left the development of the emulator, the project was handed over to a team named "VBA Team", led by Forgotten's brother. Development on the original VisualBoyAdvance stopped in 2004 with version 1.8.0 beta 3, and a number of forked versions were made by various developers in the years since then, such as VisualBoyAdvance-M.[7]

VBA was a crucial component of Twitch Plays Pokmon, a social experiment in which thousands of button inputs collected from the viewership of the streaming website Twitch were fed into an emulated version of Pokmon Red.[8][9][10] Viewers typed commands into the chat function, which was then fed into the VBA emulator via an IRC bot.[8] They succeeded after 16 days of continuous play, with a peak concurrent viewership of 121,000 and over 1.1 million unique participants.[11]

The VisualBoyAdvance became the most popular GBA emulator for the Unix platform[17] and the emulator contributed "greatly" to the late years of GBA game development by providing a suite of development and visual debugging tools for developers who wanted to create games that surpassed even Nintendo's own.[18] A port from VBA's code was used as the foundation of the Visual Boy Zune, an emulator of the Zune HD.[19]

Wesley Akkerman from the Dutch computer magazine Computer!Totaal named the VisualBoyAdvance as one of the best Game Boy emulators alongside the mGBA, owing to its variety of features and customization options.[20] In a review on the tech blog Techilife, VisualBoyAdvance has been named the oldest and most reliable Game Boy Advance emulator and has been praised for its ease of use.[21]

I came upon a situation where I was not able to play any of my Gameboy games when away from home. I stumbled upon a rather fantastic solution that really needs to be shared with the Linux world. An emulator called VisualBoy Advance.

What is quite neat about this emulator is the options for how you consume your Gameboy content. My preference is the Super Game Boy that has the boarder decoration you would enjoy when playing the game on your Super Nintendo.

I would suggest some improvements to decrease the angle of that learning curve. Not a huge deal for those that have been playing around with emulators, but a start screen that guides you would be nice.

VisualBoy Advance is a pretty fantastic emulator. If you have an itch for some Gameboy fun and need to scratch it, this is absolutely my preference. Though, I must say, using actual hardware is probably more fun it can be less pragmatic. VisualBoy Advance is a next best method for playing these games and, bonus, on a larger screen!

I've been using VisualBoy Advance for some time now (since version 1.3) and have built up quiet a large rom collection for it. Although the best Gameboy emulator out there (in my opinion) it is still not perfect. Below are a list of games that do not seem to work well in the latest versions of this emulator but do work in older versions or by modifying some of the emulator's setting.

First of all make sure you do not have an into hacked version as this version of the game will crash the emulator. Other then that it basiclly has the same problem as Legacy of Goku showing a similar message when you try to play it.

Once the message shows up on the screen reset the emulator and load your game. You should be on the planet select screen and be able to continue your game. The only other problem here is that you will have to do this after every planet. I will do more research into this and post a better fix if I find one for this game.

The simplist way to fix this problem is to increase the Flash Memory size in the emulator (Options->Emulator->Save Type and choose "Flash 128K"). However (although not confirmed) this might cause problems in other games that use 64K memory. The other solution is to create a "vba-over.ini" file in the same directory as the emulator itself. With this file you can set "game specific" options that will only be used for the games you specify. Instructions for creating this file can be found in the readme file for VisualBoy Advance. I have provided the specific setting for each known effected game below: 0852c4b9a8
