Smart Defrag 3 hits all the notes you'd expect from a defragger, but it is too aggressive in terms of advertising. It throws recommendations for other programs at you at every turn. Still, it makes up for that pestering with performance that rivals most defrag programs for Windows.

This program tries to replace Windows' default defragmentation widget by being more advanced and offering more style, features, and customizations. We're not kidding about replacing, either -- the program will turn off your usual defragmenter and install other programs if you don't uncheck those options during install, so be careful. Once you have Smart Defrag 3 installed, you'll be very happy with its futuristic layout that offers some customization and a nice hard drive map that is a delight to read. It lets you set automatic and boot time defrags, as well -- but you might want to program those to happen when you're not using your computer, as the program took upwards of 30 minutes to defrag when we tested it. It was smart enough to recognize our SSD and not defrag it, though. The program has an "action center" that claims to recommend performance fixes, but they are all just recommendations for other programs made by the app's developers.

It's not as if those programs are bad, by any means, it's just a little obnoxious to see nonstop advertisements for other programs. Outside of that and somewhat slow performance, Smart Defrag 3 offers everything you'd want in a defragmenting program. It's a fine replacement for Windows' default and compares favorably to top programs like Defraggler.

With the improved IObit disk defrag engine, Smart Defrag not only defrags your HDD but also trims your SSD to accelerate disk access speed and enhance disk durability. And Smart Defrag specially optimized the file organization algorithm on Windows 10. To make it more powerful, Smart Defrag 6 also delivers several other useful features. Boot Time Defrag can defrag Windows registry to release more occupied RAM and ensure the system stability while you can customize Boot Time Defrag as per your needs. Meanwhile, Auto Defrag and Scheduled Defrag ensure your disks are always optimized to their top performance. Furthermore, Game Optimize is designed to offer gamers ultra-smooth gaming experience. The last but not the least, Disk Health can help you monitor your disk status in real-time.From CNETIn partnership with SoftonicAboutAbout DownloadAdd Your SoftwarePoliciesPrivacy PolicyTerms of UseCookies PolicyDo not share or sell my personal informationFollow usDownload.com2024 Download.com, a Red Ventures company. Disk fragmentation is the main cause of slow computer. With enhanced multi-threading defrag engine and improved defrag speed, Smart Defrag provides better solution for faster data access and outstanding disk performance. Then you can enjoy faster game launching speed, copy files in half the time, etc.

As your computer getting older, it takes longer to startup your computer and begins to work. Smart Defrag helps fix this problem easily. Configuring Boot Time Defrag feature, those files on HDD that cannot be moved while system is running can be quickly defragmented for faster startup.

"IObit Smart Defrag optimizes your PC to take full advantage of SSD performance while defragmenting your hard disks. Its SSD Trim tool automatically enables system tweaks that typically require experience to apply. Smart Defrag's updates include a new defrag engine, specialized Game Defrag, a cool new look, and many more language options (35 and counting)."

"I have been using Iobit products for a good many years now. Because I am running an older machine with 6 drives, including 2 external, I find that Iobit's "Smart Defrag 8 Pro" has served me very well. Being an older machine,, my computer system tends to become fragmented quite easily. Having My "Smart Defrag 8 Pro" set to auto defrag, and running a "Defrag and Optimize" once a week, keeps my system running smooth and well. Iobit is constantly upgrading and striving to make the product even better as time goes by. I am well pleased with this product."

"I run a combination of RAID 0 SSDs and RAID 0 HDDs and use Smart Defrag Pro to analyse, defrag and keep my drives running at peak performance. As with all IObit software it is easy to install, use and very reliable. Just set it up and forget it. Smart Defrag has a very small memory foot print so it won't slow down your system. Definitely recommended!"

I don't want to update to the pro version of smart defrag and I don't want to have the smart defrag update message nagging me to update it each time windows starts. I am content with the defrag contained in ASCU. So, how do I disable this update message?

Well it's like this... my C: drive is a SSD and as far as I know ASCU takes care of the trim and there is no need for more defrag functions there. Then I have a 1.5TB storage drive (D:) that doesn't get fragmented enough to justify any defragmentation software at all, or at least the ASCU defrag takes care of this well enough for my needs. On another note I think it is far to expensive for MY needs. And as a small parenthesis I have (when I needed it several years ago) found a freeware that was totally awesome at defragging, did it so completely and at such speed it totally blew the competition out of the drives. I won't name it here, but I could give it to you in a personal message if you'd like.

found a way that works --right click the shortcut (in this case driver booster because i don't have smart defrag installed) open file location find AutoUpdate.exe. use the program IObit Unlocker (it's free) and rename the file to something like AutoUpdate.exe.bak so it will never run. but you can still use the check for updates manually to update all iobit programs

I have a solid state drive. I use Smart Defrag on it which shows me that when I defrag it calls it Trim instead of course. I have Optimize turned off on my hard drive because I use Smart Defrag instead. At least I think I have it turned off. I did a check in dos to see what it says about my Trim being disable or enabled. These are my results:

Should I then go into Windows defrag and disable it? You didn't say. So that is in: Hard Drive>>Tools>>Optimize>>This is where I would turn off the defrag or optimize. So, turn it off because I am using Smart Defrag?

Smart Defrag is a tool that allows you to schedule and perform defragmentation operations on your hard disks. This can improve performance of drives, allowing files to be accessed more quickly.

Smart Defrag's schedule tab allows defrags to be set up regularly, and in Options there are some very useful settings. Smart Defrag can be set to defrag only when a computer is plugged in (not running on battery power), and also to pause if CPU usage reaches a predetermined percentage.

With the new generation of ultra-fast defrag engine, Smart Defrag 5 can not only defragment your HDD but also trim your SSD to accelerate disk read/write speed and enhance disk durability. You can easily defrag large files and consolidate free spaces with the newly added Large File Defrag and Free Space Defrag for more efficient defragmentation. Also, you can enjoy top game experience with Game Optimize in Smart Defrag 5.

I guess that Windows Built in defragmenter will conflict with Smart Defrag, and perhaps what Smart Defrag have achieved in a week will be undo when Windows Defragmenter is exectuded by the weekly scheduled task.

To turn off the built-in Windows defragmenter, go to the Start menu and type "defrag" into the search box, and open Disk Defragmenter. Inside Disk Dragmenter, click on "Configure Schedule" and uncheck "Run on a Schedule."

As the Windows built-in defrag run regurlarly, Smart Defrag may not defrag automatically when the fragmentation rate didn't reach the condition. Thus, it seems that Smart Defrag doesn't run properly. However, there is no conflict and nothing wrong.

I guess that Windows defrag works with a totally different approach than SmartDefrag, hence when Windows built in defragmenter weekly defrag is scheduled, ALL what was achieved with SmartDefrag will be undone and so Windows defrag and SmartDefrag will contnue to fight against each other on a weekly basis:

The above statement is the escence of this thread, windows built in defrag has a different approach than iobit's smart defrag and so even that windows defrag may show that the HDD or EHDD are fragmented, acording to iobit's smart defrag THEY ARE NO! 0852c4b9a8
