Andy first gained recognition when he joined Kouros Shahmiri and they formed the successful duo Andy & Kouros, going on to release 4 albums together: Khastegary (1985), Parvaz (1987), the hugely successful album Balla (1990), and Goodbye (1991). The two split in 1992, with both Andy and Kouros going on to have successful individual solo careers. The two reunited several times after that point. In 2002 and 2004, they performed together for a sold-out audience in San Jose, California. In 2009, Andy & Kouros they went on an international tour together in the Iranian diaspora, and performed together again in May 2010. They also appeared together on a music video by Farez remaking their hit "Niloufar".

Andy was in love with music growing up in Iran, where he said his family didn't have running water until he was in grade seven and his father had to take out a loan to pay for his first guitar. By his early 20s, he was just about to release a debut single, but the Iranian Revolution canceled those plans.

"It was a crime and it was illegal. So, [a] lot of people got jailed for it because they had our cassettes and VHS tapes," Andy said. "But people were persistent, it shows that you cannot stop music. And regardless of how tough the government gets, people will find ways to listen to it."

In 2020, Andy received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, a popular honor for professional achievement and community contribution in the U.S. Other famous musicians to receive the award include Jimi Hendrix and David Bowie.

Sasan Yafteh (Persian:  ), better known by his stage name, Sasy (Persian: ), formerly known as Sasy Mankan (Persian:  ), is an Iranian pop & hip-hop singer-songwriter from Ahvaz. Reuters has described him as one of Iran's most famous underground singers. Sasy's hit song "Gentleman" has over 100 million plays on the Persian music station Radio Javan.

Born in Tehran, Iran, Andy grew up in an Armenian household. He developed as a musician and entertainer under the tutelage of a famous Iranian producer and eventually made a name for himself in the country. However, during the Islamic Revolution, it became impossible for him to stay in his native country and he emigrated to the United States, where he settled in Los Angeles.
