Hi. Recently, opera started doing something very odd: each day, at 0.44, it opens a new non-private window. That's it. It opens on speed dial; it doesn't try to open a website or anything. I checked the Task scheduler and disabled auto-update checks, since one of them was scheduled for 0.42 each day, but it didn't help. I also ran a full scan with windows defender (took about 4 hours), nothing new was detected.

I made some research on the internet, and a lot of things were talking about the operadriver and the browser version, so my Opera Browser version is the last one (71.0.3770.198) and spyder tells me that this driver only supports opera version 80 but i don't think it exists. I got the opera driver here : says that it should work with my version of Opera so i kinda don't understand

Yes, this is true. The developers of the Opera browser have made a change in how it handles extensions. Previously, it was possible to write an extension that would put icons on both the Menu bar and the Sidebar. The change to opera defines two different types of extension, one for the Menu bar, and one for the Sidebar. The Bitwarden extension that Opera is currently using only shows icons on the Menu bar. There is no extension for the sidebar. I hope someone is working on a sidebar extension for Opera.

The Bitwarden extension has always worked on the Opera menu bar, and up until the release of Opera version 78 it also worked on the sidebar. The sidebar greatly improves the use of Bitwarden, It resizes the main window and allows the Bitwarden window to be instantly pinned beside it. The sidebar is the main reason that I use Opera. According to the people on the Opera forums, in order to have an extension work on the sidebar, the extension has to be written specifically for the sidebar. All of the sidebar-only extensions in the Opera extension store, such as Side Calculator, work correctly with the latest Opera releases. I think that if the Opera team is not going change this, the Bitwarden team needs to develop a sidebar-only extension for Opera.

Due to popular demand, Opera Software showed interest in programming its browser for alternative operating systems such as Apple Macintosh, QNX and BeOS. On October 10, 1997, they launched "Project Magic", an effort to determine who would be willing to purchase a copy of their browser in their native OS, and to properly distribute funds to develop or outsource for such operating systems.[8] On November 30, 1997 they closed voting for which operating system to develop with. Project Magic then became a news column for updates for alternative operating systems until version 4.[9]

Version 9.5, codenamed Kestrel (after the Kestrel falcon), was released to span the gap between Opera 9.2 and Opera 10.[44] It included some of the rendering improvements due to be made in Opera 10 and also aimed to provide better integration with various operating systems.[45][46][47] The first alpha build of Opera 9.5 was released on September 4, 2007. The first public beta was released on October 25, 2007,[48] and the final version was released on June 12, 2008.[49] The final release was downloaded more than 4.5 million times in the first 5 days.[50]

Alongside the new features, Opera 9.5 had new performance improvements. For example, x64-bit editions of Opera for compatible Linux and BSD operating systems.[45][61] On the other hand, SPARC Linux support has been dropped.[62]

Opera 24 was released on September 2, 2014, based on Chromium 37. This release introduced tab previews, which are displayed when tabs are hovered. It also included several improvements specific to Windows: the frame of private windows was darkened and support for high DPI displays was improved again.[104]

Opera 28 was released on March 10, 2015, based on Chromium 41. Starting with this version, bookmarks can be synchronized between Opera on the desktop, Opera Mobile on Android and Opera Mini on Android and iOS.[108] Support for batch operation was added to the bookmark manager and bookmark suggestions now appear when typing in the address bar.[109]

To install Opera manually, go to the Opera website (www.opera.com) and download it from there. Presuming that you have your downloads set to go to your Downloads Folder, you can run the following in Terminal:

By now, you can simply go to Download Opera browser, then click the button above Opera for Windows, Mac or Linux and the website will detect your operating system and processor architecture (32 or 64 bits) using device fingerprinting and prompt you a .deb package to download and install by a simple click using the Ubuntu Software Center.

I have windows 10 and was going to open opera but as I opened it, Kaspersky internet security detected it as a Threat! I know for a fact that opera browser is legit and that Kaspersky internet security is detecting it as a trojan but not blocking it as it is a false positive! I still don't understand why a perfectly safe computer program would be detected as a threat when opera is one of the most popular and safe web browsers on the internet. I hope this response brings an awareness to the issue of this false positive and i hope whoever sees this has a great day!

The Opera Web Browser is available for a number of operating systems and platforms. It works on Windows, macOS and Linux. Opera Mini is a mobile version of the browser, suitable for mobile phones and some gaming devices.

Passwords Not Saved Between PCs By Default: Opera stores passwords in such a way that they are encrypted in a way tied to current PC's operating system, the same issue Google Chrome has. While the passwords are not kept or left behind on the PC itself, they won't be retrievable when you move to a new PC. You must sync your password to Opera in order to preserve them as you move PCs or upgrade operating systems.

Yes, you can import all your data, bookmarks, and passwords to Opera GX. When you open the browser for the first time, a pop-up window will invite you to do so. If you don't do it during this step, you can find the option under Settings > Synchronization.

The OPERA application can be downloaded from the NIEHS GitHub repository and used locally on your desktop.
