The use case is having movies, that belong together spread around and not being able to easily match the emby naming conventions, but still having the desire to present them as one item with multiple versions.

The plugin works similar to the auto boxsets, but does the "movie versions grouping" - it will group all movies based on their TMDB id into one item, regardless of where they're placed and how they're named.

The problem is, no matter what folder structure/name I try, Infuse always shows them both movies with same poster. It also seems random, for some reason it sometimes shows the first, other times the other. Grrrr!! See my sample of Hollow Man attached.

For, bizarrely, Carol For Another Christmas was brought to us by no less an organisation than that well known maker of blockbuster movies, The United Nations, who hijacked Charles Dickens immortal story to launch a charm offensive on the people of America, and, as charm offensives go, they made a bit of a hash of it. It's one thing to get a message across in a subtle and understated fashion, it's quite another to stuff your message into a sock and whack the viewer over the head with it.

In April 1963, The UN announced that its new foundation would be producing a series of six movies, each of which would air simultaneously on all three US television networks without, thanks to an investment of $4 million from the Xerox Corporation, the need for commercial breaks.

Edith Evans appears as the Ghost of Christmas Past - evidently having forgotten to change out of her Lady Bracknell or Miss Western costumes from previous movies - and playing the spirit as such a sweet old dear that your first thought is that it's the woman from the Gainsborough films topping up her pension in her dotage.

One of the great advantages that animation has over human-acted movies, is that the director can use the magic of the medium to do things that are impossible with the more traditional and commonplace methods of film making.

Gatsby has had four film adaptations, with two especially big-budget, well-known movies: the 1974 version starring Robert Redford and the 2013 film with Leonardo DiCaprio. There was also a silent film adaptation made in 1926, just one year after the novel came out, but that film has been lost, with only a one-minute trailer that survives to attest to its existence.

Some elements of the film adaptations have strongly influenced people's vision and understanding of the novel, but there isn't one "best" Great Gatsby movie or one best Great Gatsby cast, or even one movie that has fully captured the spirit of the novel. (Compare this with To Kill a Mockingbird, which has just one major film adaptation that many consider not only worthy of the book, but also to be one of the best movies of all time.)

Great performances. Although spread across the four different movies, each of the main characters in Gatsby gets at least one stellar performance, from Alan Ladd's Jay Gatsby to Sam Waterston's Nick Carraway to Elizabeth Debicki's Jordan. Watching the actors bring these characters to life can help you appreciate these characters' best lines, motivations, and outcomes. This can, in turn, help you write better essays about The Great Gatsby!

Obviously, no movie can perfectly adapt a book, so everything from small details (like Daisy's hair color) to large plot events (like Tom blatantly telling George that Gatsby is the killer in the 2013 film) can be changed. This could be a problem if you mix up a scene that occurred only in one of the movies with something from the book when working on an assignment.

Basically, this film is worth finding if you want an excellent visualization of Gatsby himself but aren't as worried about the surrounding production or other characters and/or you like old movies and film noir. But for most students, one of the later adaptations will likely be a better choice.

This one is likely the Gatsby movie you are most familiar with. Directed by Baz Luhrmann, this Gatsby has the eye-popping visuals, dancing scenes, high energy and big production values his movies are known for. In other words, this 2013 adaptation has all of the energy and enthusiasm the previous two adaptations were lacking.

Make sure to use specific lines, scenes, or shots to back up your argument. In your English classes, you've probably learned about using evidence from the book as evidence for your essays. It turns out, you can do the same with movies! Even better, you have a wider variety of evidence to choose from.

As a brief example, let's look at how one of Gatsby's most famous symbols, the green light at the end of the Buchanans' dock, is shown in two of the movies and what it shows about the directors' visions.

When I was a kid, I loved fairy tales. I loved the idea of talking animals and brave girls and boys who overcame cruel care takers. I also really loved Disney movies. They all had happy endings; what's not to love about that? I could watch "Beauty and the Beast" or "Aladdin" every single day.

When I got a little older, I graduated from watching Disney movies to reading the Brothers Grimm. In the fourth grade, I checked out the "Complete Fairy Tales of the Brothers' Grimm" from my school library and never returned it (a belated "sorry!" to my grade school library!)

For fans of costumed crime fighters, intergalactic odysseys, old school action serials, and creepy classics, it has proven to be a very important year at the cinema, with a stunning variety of many upcoming 2023 movies. Admittedly, those types of stories can be found all the time (including throughout our upcoming 2024 movies schedule, as well), but they especially describe the movies coming out in this particular year.

Of course, there are more than just upcoming superhero movies (including upcoming Marvel movies) to look forward to, as well as upcoming horror movies, too. Let's go through all of the 2023 new movie releases we have confirmed so far.

We've lost count of how many Transformers movies there are, but there's a new one in 2023. We also return to the world of the Hunger Games and Willy Wonka with new prequels. It's another big year for horror, too: after M3gan was a hit, the Conjuring and Insidious franchises keep rolling, while horror icons The Exorcist and The Evil Dead rise again.

Speaking of sequels and franchises, of course there are a ton of superhero movies. Marvel's Ant-Man and the Wasp kick things off for the MCU, with the Guardians of the Galaxy in action for a third and possibly final time before newer heroes cross over from Disney Plus for team-up adventure The Marvels. Outside of the MCU, the much-anticipated Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse also drops, and we'll see another Venom-style Spider-spinoff, Kraven the Hunter. Meanwhile comic book rivals DC bring back Aquaman and the Flash, and also introduce new face Blue Beetle.

On a very basic level, my first memor(ies) of variations were seeing the differences between the VHS tapes at my local movie store for movies like Die Hard, Bloodsport, and Falling Down, and their broadcast edits that would appear frequently on TV stations. Not only would the actual audio track have the profanities awkwardly dubbed over or blanked out, but many scenes (sometimes large, sometimes small) would be cut out.

I know that's not quite the same as a different cut of a film done by a director or studio, but it was the first time I remember realizing movies could (and sometimes had to) exist in different forms.

I'm not sure if I've seen/consumed different versions of media, but I did learn recently that indeed films, trailers, etc. get cut for various markets, like the Middle East, East Asia, (even USA), among others. The hypocrisy of it is that the companies that put out movies with open ideological messages censor them for other markets that frown upon these messages (and even worse punish others for that).

That experience first got me to realize: hey wait, you can put stuff in and take stuff out of movies. I didn’t give it that much attention at the time, but it stayed with me. So, as I watched more movies and learned about censorship, scenes getting cut for commercials, director’s cuts, etc., I would recall that moment I saw NRNS on TV as a kid. It may not be a great movie exactly, but it’s provided a great learning experience about film editing and variation.

Anyway, what about you? What’s your first fluid text moment? In other words, what work made you realize that movies (or TV episodes, games, etc.) can exist in different versions? How did that impact your view of the work? Have you seen the different cuts of NRNS? Sound off in the comments below! Or maybe respond with Notes!

Following the success of Baz Luhrman's Romeo + Juliet, modern retellings of Shakespeare became popular in the late 1990s and early 2000s. The modern-day reimagining of Hamlet takes place in New York City, where Ethan Hawke's prince is the son of a recently dead CEO. His Hamlet is unique, portrayed as a film student who turns his famous soliloquies into short movies. Critics didn't give it the same praise as the more ambitious adaptations, but the movie was well received. Ebert even wrote, "I like the way the material has truly been 'adapted' to its modern setting without the language being adulterated."

The DCU is coming but, mercifully, figuring out how to watch the DC movies in order is relatively straightforward for now. That's even with Blue Beetle muddying the waters slightly with it being a DCEU movie but including a hero that will continue being played by the same actor in the DCU. But James Gunn and Peter Safran's DCU Chapter One is a story for another day. With the DCEU riding off into the sunset, it's a chance for a clean slate and a whole new cinematic universe to be born. ff782bc1db
