I need to install internet explorer to access a website that demands IE and I do not want to change over to windows ( =143537&p=2 ) There are other posts also but mostly for 64bit system related problems.

I have tried ies4linux and it does not install properly. It installs (with some errors) but on giving the command (on commandline or thru desktop icon) it just finishes without any error or message. Wine-gecko and wine_mono are installed.

I have tried to download ie6 from the site: _explorer.php but it does not install since it detects that a more recent version is already installed! I have tried removing ies4linux, ~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Internet Explorer/iexplore.exe and wine_gecko but still the error (more recent version installed) remains. How can I solve this problem and install ie6 from this site in wine? Also could someone please confirm that this will be legal. Thanks for your help.

I installed with winetricks as mentioned above (violetpill). The internet explorer installed well and now opens well with the command mentioned above. However, on loading this page, following error is there:

Still there are companies who believe Windows is the only OS and IE is the only browser around. This prompts them to make sites which can be accessed only in IE. Though I have dual-boot system I boot into Windows only once in several days. I don't want to boot into Windows just to check my internet usage(yes, it is my ISP's site - ). The site does not allow me to enter my username and password in Firefox/Chrome in Ubuntu. When I take my mouse pointer over it, it just keeps circling! And now it has started showing Bad Gateway. The proxy server received an invalid response from an upstream server. Ironically it seems to use Apache/2.0.52 (Red Hat) Server. So there they need Linux! Is there any way out for such issues other than installing Windows on a Virtual PC?

This will start the installation. Now, please notice that you should not run this script as sudo, as you might be used to - or tempted to. Here's what happens when you run ies4linuxscript as sudo (ignore the old version warning):

I've uninstalled anything related to Playonlinux and Wine to reinstall these packages, first the Wine package, 3.11 version (with 32 bits architecture also installed), then the 4.2.12 version of Playonlinux.

Hi I'd like to browse the internet from Chromium or Firefox on a Kubuntu system, but disguise my OS as Win/OS. Googling didn't help, but I'm not really sure I'm searching for the correct thing, since I'm not entirely sure what terminology to use for doing something like this..

Installed it, but I am having a small problem. I need IE for one website, which requires IE, and Java to run. When I run IE (using Ubuntu 6.06), and log into the webisite I need to use, it keeps trying to install JRE 1.4.2_12. If I let it, it seems to complete, then just sits there. Am I missing something? If this is a dumb question, I am very new to linux, having converted only about 2 weeks ago.

The problem is that some of the files/directories in the ~/.ies4linux directories are installed as the root user. Your standard user will not be able to issue those command or use those files. So changing the ownership of the files and directories within the ~/.ies4linux directory solves that issue.

Browsers have become an inherent part of our virtual life and we all make use of browsers for surfing the internet in some or the other way. Also, browsers can be used not only for surfing, we can make use of browsers for navigating through the file system of the OS. 0852c4b9a8
