I haven't used my printer for 4 months. It was off and disconnected during these months. I've recently upgraded my Mac to macOS High Sierra. I tried using my printer. During the first try, it printed poorly in black ( i did not try color at the time). Upon trying to print afterwards, the printer stopped printing all together. No error messages and no indication of low ink, jammed paper, maintenance, cartridge erros (i use original hp ink). I've tried printing a test page AND an alignment page but nothing was coming out. The paper would feed properly, the printer would attempt to print (mechanically doing what it's supposed to do) but no ink is coming out. I tried cleaning the ink heads several times. After each cleaning cycle, a print page would come out. It prints fine with black andd colors. However, if i try to print anything else, nothing comes out. It's strange that only when i'm cleaning the heads that i can print out the test page. If i try to initiate a regular test page or an alignment page, it would still not print. I, also, tried to photocopy a page and print it. It did not print. I'm running out of ideas of what's happening!

Actually it is not failure! After searching Youtube videos, I've come across the possiblity of the ink cartridge being blocked. I followed the recommendations of immersing the head of the cartridge into a slightly hot water bath. It worked! My printer is printing well right now!

However, I went ahead and did step by step what you've posted. This time, something strange was happening. For some reason, whenever i try to clean the cartridges, my laptop gives me a message that it could not perform this task because either the printer is offline or a print work is in progress, which is not true for both. The software recognizes the printer and shows the ink levels and i'm able to request a print of the test page. However, still no ink is coming out when trying to print a test page, a document or even to photocopy!

I dumped an Epson printer a bit over a year ago, replaced with this PhotoSmart C4680 - Thinking (wrong!) HP would give better quality -- Any suggestions on how to get this one working, Black only ok, or a better quality printer would be most welcome.
