See below for some examples of Sale Horse Photos that I offer. Additionally, I have another blog post on a set of Sale Photos that also included under saddle images. If you want to be super fancy, black background portraits are also a really nice professional choice when offering a horse for sale. Equine Liberty is also a nice touch for younger horses. All images below were shot for Edsall Performance Horses in Oakdale, California.

Now, when you approach your subject, keep in mind that your autofocus is going to try to focus on the falling snowflakes, not the horse. I usually put my focus on manual so I can focus on the horse, not the snowflakes.

I am still blown away at the support from everyone in the Hampton Roads (and beyond) horse community for what started as just an idea that I might want to try, to actually bringing it to life, and then being fully booked solid. I had an absolute blast traveling around to several different farms to capture these fun Equestrian Christmas mini sessions! All together I photographed:

Taking great holiday pictures of your horse can be tough. After all, horses are not props that just stand around and stay put where you put them. Here are some quick tips to help you to create some great holiday pictures of your horse and still come out with your mind intact.

We stayed at a farm called Skalakot. They have a luxury hotel and a big herd of gorgeous Icelandic horses they use for taking people on short and long-term riding expeditions. A team of four talented horsewomen would move the herds or individual horses to the locations.

A horse should have roughly a 50-degree angle of the front wall of the hoof to the ground. The angle of the hoof should match the angle of the dorsal surface of the pastern. If this angle, or line, is broken, it indicates a poor trim due to either too much toe, a concave break in the line, or too much heel, a convex break in the line. Virginia Therapeutic Farriery has a very good drawn illustration that expands on this break of line and the impact too much heel or toe can have on the pressure put on the pastern.

Moving on to another horse, Photo 3, we see a horse that is overdue for its trim. This horse also has shoes, but it is still clear to see that its toe is long and in need of trimming. Continuing to grow this foot out can result in a horse that drags its toes and may result in tripping or stumbling. A horse with this issue can develop knee and back issues from having to work harder to lift the feet to avoid tripping. This is one of many reasons why it is crucial to maintain a consistent trimming schedule with your trusted farrier.

Finally, we have an illustration (Photo 5) that shows us several differences in hoof and pastern angle. Horse A is the closest to ideal of the three. Horse B has heels that are noticeably high. This results in a steep hoof angle, and a more sloping pastern angle. Lastly, in horse C we see heels that are underslung and too short. The toe is also too long, resulting in a hoof angle that is too sloped with a steep pastern.

The Bureau of Land Management manages and protects wild horses and burros on 26.9 million acres of public lands across 10 Western states as part of its mission to administer public lands for a variety of uses. The Wild Horse and Burro Program's goal is to manage healthy wild horses and burros on healthy public rangelands.

The Tales from the Trails blog pulls together wild horse and burro stories from across the Bureau of Land Management. These are stories about our work to manage and protect wild horse and burro herds on public lands, how animals are cared for in our off-range holding facilities and where they end up after they've been adopted to a good home. The BLM manages free-roaming wild horses and burros on public lands as part of its multiple-use mission, with the goal of supporting healthy wild horses and burros on healthy public rangelands. The BLM is responsible for determining and maintaining appropriate management levels (AML) for each herd and works to achieve that population target through a variety of management processes, including limiting reproduction in some herds through the use of birth control and gathers that remove excess animals from the range. The National Wild Horse and Burro Advisory Board provides advice and recommendations to the BLM and the U.S. Forest Service as the agencies work to carry out their missions to manage and protect wild horses and burros on public lands. Read more >>

For additional questions or data requests, please contact the National Information Center prior to submitting a request under the Freedom of Information Act. We strive to provide substantive responses as quickly as possible and reduce the need to submit FOIA requests. FOIA requests undergo a legal process that can be time intensive and costly, which consumes agency resources and funding that otherwise can be used to help fulfill our mission of managing healthy wild horses and burros on healthy public lands.

The BLM provides information to equine sale and auction facilities regarding the illegal sale of untitled wild horses and burros. If you observe or have factual information that a federally protected (untitled) wild horse or wild burro has been treated inhumanely or illegally sold to slaughter, please contact the BLM at wildhorse@blm.gov or at 866-468-7826 with your name, contact information, and specific information about what you saw or know. If possible, please include the freeze mark and/or photos.

The Bureau of Land Management oversees 26.9 million acres of land used by wild horses, wild burros and other species. Unchecked herds double in size every four years, due to a lack of natural predators and a rapid growth rate. To prevent overpopulation and overgrazing, the BLM gathers excess animals and offers them for adoption or sale to a good home.

As I do with most of my images, I start with pulling down ever so slightly on the highlights and blacks and increasing whites and shadows. I also find I need to warm up my subject a tad, so I will temperature and exposure to create a slightly warmer look. Of course, you will have to experiment with this to see what works best for your style.

The U.S. Border Patrol agents at the center of a controversy stemming from their use of horses to block Haitian migrants from entering the U.S. have not yet been questioned more than a month after the incident took place, according to a law enforcement official.

Images of mounted patrol agents using their horses to push back migrants, mostly Haitian, stirred national controversy as an unprecedented number attempted to cross the Rio Grande into the small border town of Del Rio, Texas, in September. The Department of Homeland Security launched an internal investigation into the matter shortly after the images came out.

Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas promised a swift investigation into the horse patrol over a month ago, assuring lawmakers it would yield findings days later. As of publication, and despite multiple requests for comment from ABC News, the administration has not publicly announced any findings.

The horse patrol appears to be back up and running in Del Rio, Texas, despite silence from the Biden administration on the results of the internal probe. Use of the horse patrol was stopped at the Del Rio International Bridge in the days following the confrontations.

White House press secretary Jen Psaki was unequivocal in announcing the end to the use of Border Patrol horses in Del Rio last month, calling it a \"policy change.\" DHS officials clarified at the time that it was only a temporary suspension.

\"The secretary also conveyed to civil rights leaders earlier this morning that we would no longer be using horses in Del Rio,\" Psaki said at a Sept. 23 White House press briefing. \"So that is something -- a policy change that has been made in response.\"

\"They pulled all horse patrol agents for maybe a day or so to process,\" the official said referring to the administrative duties agents are required to perform when migrants flood the area. \"Then it was right back to normal sector-wide, with the exception of a couple more agents under scrutiny.\"

CBP Assistant Commissioner Luis Miranda said the horse patrol remains suspended in the city of Del Rio. But it continues to be used across some 55,000 square miles of the surrounding Del Rio Border Patrol Sector. 006ab0faaa
