You may have to do this a few times before you reach the actual exe file location. Using the latter method, the location turns out to be C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\Programs\GIMP 2\bin\gimp-2.10.exe.

Thanks everyone for the help.

I uninstalled the Microsoft Store version of GIMP and installed it from the official GIMP website.

The location is, like @afre wrote, C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\Programs\GIMP 2\bin\gimp-2.10.exe .

Free Download Gimp Software Windows

I have recently installed GIMP 2.8.6 on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS 64-bit and for the first time when I opened it, two windows along with the main window were available, but now I can only see a single main window. How can I bring those default windows back?

Since you recently installed GIMP and closed the Toolbox window, I would suggest to reset your window preferences because it would also restore the dockable dialogs and the Layers windows which is extremly handy when working with GIMP.

You need to add all font locations. For instance, if you downloaded a font, and it's in the download section, simply installing it through windows will not be sufficient. You also need to add the folder the .tff file is located in. Hence why some people are just moving fonts to gimp\2.0\fonts instead.

The code works fine in gimp. Interesting is that I have to use drawable, even I don't use it. But if i want to call it via a .bat script nothing happens, with --verbose I don't get an error, just the hint that the default interpreter is used.

Initializing plug-in: 'C:\Program Files\GIMP 2\lib\gimp\2.0\plug-ins\file-rawtherapee\file-rawtherapee.exe'Initializing plug-in: 'C:\Program Files\GIMP 2\lib\gimp\2.0\plug-ins\file-heif\file-heif.exe'Initializing plug-in: 'C:\Program Files\GIMP 2\lib\gimp\2.0\plug-ins\file-darktable\file-darktable.exe'Starting extension: 'extension-script-fu'No batch interpreter specified, using the default 'plug-in-script-fu-eval'.batch command executed successfullyEXIT: gimp_exitEXIT: gimp_real_exitWriting 'C:\Users\sebas\AppData\Roaming\GIMP\2.10\colorrc'Writing 'C:\Users\sebas\AppData\Roaming\GIMP\2.10\templaterc'Writing 'C:\Users\sebas\AppData\Roaming\GIMP\2.10\parasiterc'Writing 'C:\Users\sebas\AppData\Roaming\GIMP\2.10\unitrc'EXIT: app_exit_after_callbackedit new file or finish

Of course i tried a lot with the arguments by calling the gimp-console-2.10.exe. After a lot hours i thought maybe someone can help. It also doesn't help to run the .bat with admin rights. The images are not saved. I also tried the syntax form this site.

Image windows: Each image open in GIMP is displayed in a separate window. Many images can be open at the same time, limited by only the system resources. Before you can do anything useful in GIMP, you need to have at least one image window open. The image window holds the Menu of the main commands of GIMP (File, Edit, Select...), which you can also get by right-clicking on the window.

The following sections walk you through the components of each of the windows shown in the screenshot, explaining what they are and how they work. Once you have read them, plus the section describing the basic structure of GIMP images, you should have learned enough to use GIMP for a wide variety of basic image manipulations. You can then look through the rest of the manual at your leisure (or just experiment) to learn the almost limitless number of more subtle and specialized things that are possible. Have fun!

@TheStingPilotFound a workarround for this. If we check with procmon what is happening, after gimp is loaded, the plugins are searching for some DLLS in BIN. While the psf redirection works and the plugins then search in the correct directory, for whatever reason gimp.exe fails to start. When it calls to dlls it returns only buffer overflows.

I made a capture for GIMP 2.8.22. When you try to build it the first time you will receive some errors that GIMP 2\32\lib\gimp\2.0\python\gimp.pyd.debug' is not a valid Portable Executable for 'Build_MSIX_APPX->x64' build and other 4 or 5 .debug files.

@alexmarin89 Further research has shown that Gimp is using a windows API out of ucrtbase to load DLLs, and this API bypasses any of the PSF fixups, essentially bypassing the PSF for those calls. This is why copying the dlls to the SystemXXX folders helps on that loading.

I have gimp 2.8 on Windows 10 and this is what solved the small tool icons problem for me:open This PC > Local Disc (C:) > Program Files > GIMP 2 > bin, right click on gimp-2.8,open Properties, click on Compatibility. On the settings options select: Override high DPI scaling behaviour.Scaling performed by,scroll and select System,Apply,OK

Hi @SolidCapo ,

Gimp is available to install from the Manjaro extra repositories, I do not know why are you using the Flatpak package.

You can have all the panels in one window by checking in the GIMP menu Windows - Single windows mode is the last option on this section.

GIMP's multi window display can confuse people, particularly Windows users who are not used to applications with multiple windows. I have been using gimp for quite a while, and I've found the easiest way for me to work it in Windows is to set your preferences as follows: click EDIT > PREFERENCES > WINDOW MANAGEMENT

Choose Hint for the toolbox: Utility Window

and Hint for other docks: Utility Window

Activiate the focus window: Checked

When you minimize GIMP however, the Tool box and other docks stay open (which is a nuissance), but this is how it is designed to work. What you need to do is press the tab key before minimizing the main window, the open docks/toolbar will disappear. When you maximize, press the tab again to see the open docks/toolbar again.

You should be able to click on the open application tab in the task bar to bring your GIMP to the front (to activate the focus).

GIMP's multi-window display definitely confuses me. I'm just a dumb Windows user but I am quite used to applications with multiple windows.

So, you are saying that this is normal and desired behavior:

- work on an image in the image window in GIMP

- change to a different application to look at something (maybe email or Windows explorer). The second application partly hides the GIMP image editing window. Normal so far.

- change back to the GIMP image editing window by clicking on its title bar.

- the GIMP window now has focus. You can tell because the title bar has changed colors and the other queues are there as well. The second application no longer has focus.

- the GIMP image editing window that you clicked is still hidden behind the second application. The other GIMP windows are now on top of the other applications on the desktop but the GIMP editing window is hidden.

- in order to be able to edit in GIMP, you must minimize all of the windows that are still shown on top of it.

That is not correct behavior.

It only happens with GIMP.

It is a bug.

Maybe that confuses *nix users who are not used to applications with a graphical interface.

You said "- the GIMP image editing window that you clicked is still hidden behind the second application. The other GIMP windows are now on top of the other applications on the desktop but the GIMP editing window is hidden."

But I am not getting that behaviour, and I'm using Vista and XP, with GIMP preferences set up as I suggested. Have you tried these settings? What version of gimp are you using?

I apologise as I obviously didn't understand the exact behaviour you were experiencing. That is definitely not normal behaviour even for Vista or XP, I'm using both. It sounds like the focus is going to the tool box, not the main window, even though you are clicking on the main window. Have you tried using ALT+TAB to change applications? Does that work? What happens when you use the application tab in the taskbar to change applications?

I've tried and tried again, and I still can't replicate that behaviour.

Well, I want my Gimp to look and act like my Paint Shop Pro like a one window program ......and it does.....now in 2.6.10

I open the Image Window to Maximum.....I place the 2 dock windows too the left and right on top of the Open Image window......I set these dock windows to utility....save the windows current location in preferences and check focused image and un-check save on exit......Since 2.6.10 thenit opens at maximum which was previously a problem as I needed to maximize the image window on start-up.......

Now it opens just like a 1 window program.......the image also zooms just like my one window programs.......In other words, I want the image window maximized and the Docks to stay on top......this works great especially with my 900 by 1600 resolution.....

The only difference is on closing...assuming I have saved....I click the upper right X twice....

To minimize you do need to "Tab" to close docks and then click the upper right minimize button......

So now with either Gimp or Portable Gimp, It works almost the same a a one window program.....having played with 2.7.1 I doubt I would select the single window option......

I just added on GimpTalk pictures comparing Gimp with PSP-X under General Help- using 2.6.10.......

Note that you can use the toolrc, the menurc and the sessionrc from your older version to get the same docks, same shortcuts etc....just copy into the new version or portable.....

I use Windows 7 and had several problems until both Gimp Portable and Gimp released ner compulations for windows......Portable is now called Rev2 and Gimp has "setup-1" in the installer name......

The two main problems were Disappearing selected menu lines and opening not maximized......Both were solved as discussed above.....

Edit.....Just for fun I opener my XP Win Portable and updated Gimp with 2.6.10 and it runs just the same as in Win 7.......Since this was an upgrade it opened with the docks in place.....I raised the Image window to fill the full screen....saved the Windows location in preference.....and it works just like a single window program.....secret is to get the latest version and set the preferences properly........

Did the same thing with Portable and they run the same....also added and tested GMIC.....
