We recently reported about Nokia smartphones getting the call recording feature in India. Our readers tipped us about getting the feature automatically without enabling anything or without making any settings changes.

Now you should be able to see call recording in your phone UI when you call someone. It worked like charm on our Nokia 7.1 and 8.1, but it may not work 100% for everyone. When you start and stop call recording while in call a message informs both listener and speaker about it.

Where are recordings saved? The call recordings are stored within the Phone app. You cannot access them using file manager apps. However, in case you have root access, then you can find the saved files (wav) in /data/data/com.google.android.dialer/files/callrecording

How to access recordings: You can access your recorded calls within the Phone app. Tap on the contact/number for which you have just completed a recording. You will notice an inline player along with the loudspeaker & share buttons.

Delete recorded calls: You can quickly delete all recorded calls by heading right here: Google Phone app > Options > Settings > Call recording > Delete all recordings now. Alternatively, you can delete a specific recording by deleting that call record from the call history. For that, open the call history and swipe away the entry (see screenshot below)

The news about the availability of a native recording option is big because even though Google is the developer of Android, other OEMs have been delivering countless additional features (including recording) for years and it is only now that Google has somehow considered the necessity of recording ability.

The software will be changed automatically from Demo Edition to Basic/Advanced Edition after inputting a corresponding Register Code on your phone. To purchase a Register Code, you are required to provide the IMEI of your phone. Each Register Code is unique and can be used only on the phone with the corresponding IMEI.

I have Nokia G50, running Android 13I can not find any built-in sound recorder app. I am not referring to call recording app but one that can record audio that doesn't originate from the device.Does anyone have an idea of such app comes with this model? Is it an app that is provided by the OS or the device manufacturer?

Update 5/14: Just like a handful of Nokia phones in India picked up the ability to record calls, the same possibility is arriving on Motorola phones, as reported by PiunikaWeb. The initial reports indicate that call recording has arrived on at least the Moto G7, but other Motorola phones are likely to receive the capability soon.

Google's been working on a call recording feature for its Phone app for some time, and it looks like the wait is almost over. As previously anticipated, the feature has started rolling out in India, seemingly beginning with Nokia's Android One phones, according to an announcement from the company today.

To get the feature, you'll need the latest version of the (Google) Phone app from the Play Store, though the actual change itself is almost assuredly server-side, given how long the functionality has been present in the app. The feature will probably work about the same as it did when XDA Developers first enabled it earlier this year, with a new "Record" button available on-screen while in calls. Tapping it will play a quick disclosure notifying participants of the recording, and recorded calls can be accessed in the Recents tab of the Phone app, denoted by a "Recorded" label below contact details for each line item.

Once the user taps the call log entry, the call recording player will be shown with a play button. Call recordings will be saved on the user's phone, not in the cloud, for convenient playback and privacy.

Now, if your KaiOS phone has a Camera button, recording will be toggled with it. If there's no Camera button, recording can be toggled by pressing Left arrow, a "REC" icon will appear.

The resulting files will be stored in the "callrecording" directory of your main storage (internal or sdcard).

If you'd like to allow agents to stop and restart call recordings during a call, check the box beside Pause Recordings. Company-level recordings will also stop and restart for the call when the agent does this.

To get the best possible audio quality, choose a quiet spot to make and record the call. The less background noise, the better your recording will sound. Keeping the two devices close together will also help improve the sound quality.

Keep in mind that users of these apps constantly complain about how app updates change the functionality of these apps. For example, when the app updates, certain call recording or playback features are taken away.

When Call Recording is activated, a call-recording notification is automatically enabled so that callers hear a message that their calls are being recorded. But, you can disable this feature. IMPORTANT!: On the Settings page, under Call Settings > Call Recording, carefully read the Terms (of Use) regarding call-recording activation before you disable this feature.

The Google Phone app is the default dialer on Google's Pixel devices, Xiaomi phones sold in the EU, and Android One phones like HMD Global's Nokia-branded smartphones. Much like other stock apps from the company, it doesn't offer as many features as other default dialer apps from companies like Xiaomi. This means that Xiaomi users in the EU currently don't have access to features like automatic call recording and flip to silence which are available on the stock MIUI dialer in other regions. Over the last couple of months, however, Google has been working to add new features to its dialer app in an effort to bring it to the same level as some of its competition.

Earlier this year in January, an APK teardown of Google Phone v43 surfaced evidence which suggested that Google was working on a call recording feature for the app. With the rollout of Google Phone v44 later that month, we were able to fully activate the feature to show exactly how it would work upon release. It seems like the feature is finally ready for prime time, as it's now rolling out to some Nokia phones in India. According to a recent post on the official Nokia community forums, a Nokia 7 Plus user has already received the feature on their device. The user initially believed that they only got the feature because they were connected to a VPN server in the U.S, but we've now seen reports from users on Telegram that other Nokia 7.2, Nokia 8.1, and Nokia 7 Plus users in India have also received the feature.

As of now, the feature is only available for a small subset of Nokia users in the country and it's unclear whether an app update or server-side config change triggered the feature. Furthermore, it's worth noting that Google is also working to add the flip to silence feature in the Google Phone app. The feature was recently spotted in an APK teardown of Google Phone v47, along with a new feature that will allow users to answer calls with 1-way video.

Google has added a support page for call recording in the Phone app, essentially making the feature official. The page states that the feature requires Android 9 or higher, the Google Phone app, a supported device, and a supported "country or region." The page does not disclose which devices and regions will be supported, though it's safe to assume Pixel and Android One phones will make the cut along with India.

The previous update confirmed the call recording feature in the Google Phone app for supported devices and supported regions. However, we did not know the devices and regions that would be supported. We now know which Nokia devices in India have received support, thanks to HMD Global's confirmation.

Recorded calls are stored on the device and not in the cloud. You can access them via the Phone app; simply tap Recents, and then the name of the caller. From there you can play back the recording, delete it, or share the call via email or messaging apps.
