Azureus was first released in June 2003 at SourceForge.net. The blue poison dart frog (Dendrobates azureus) was chosen as the logo and name of the brand by co-creator Tyler Pitchford. This choice was due to Latin names of poison dart frogs being used as codenames for his development projects.

In you case I would suggest to install Vuze/Azureus in Ubuntu copy the vuze or azureus folder from Windows located in \user\your_username\AppData\Roaming\ to you home folder in ubuntu and rename it to .azureus or .vuze. When I used Azureus, that's Vuze before it's got its new fancy UI, that worked pretty well.

and you might not have seen it if you have Azurues 2.5.0.4 installed,

even when running this portable version, as it seems to read and use the settings of your local installation . Also, it writes do the user-profile on the host.

I downloaded the trial-excelsior JET and made my own, using Azureus 2.5.0.4,

the latest cvs azureus2.jar and a bunch of plug-ins.Works fine but unfortunately I can't share it as it seems to only work on the machine is was created on .

I also tried to hide the DOS-prompt with the GUI.exe on the version offered here..

DON'T do that, it does work but it changes the files so they appear to be made with the trial thus only working on my own machine .

btw ; if you make your own don't bother with the safepeer-plugin.

Azureus now supports IP-blocklist without plugins .

yeah, the next step is to do a more thorough job and package it under NSIS so that it doesn't interfere with other installations of Azurues on the Host computer. The point is the portable does work if you're using it on computers which dont have azureus installed, otherwise as discovered it conflicts with existing installations of Azureus. But as a first attempt it does show what is possible. After consulting with someone, ive decided for now im putting this project on hold and may continue it at a later date once JRE becomes open source.
