Plugging in some headphones and listening to music on our smartphones can help relax, inspire or focus us. In fact, 64% of adults 18 to 29 use their smartphones to listen to music or podcasts. (Older age brackets listen less, but even a respectable 21% of people 50 or older like to rock out with their smartphones.)

There are way more music and radio streaming apps in BlackBerry App World and the Amazon Appstore than I had time to try, so at some point look for another list of great music apps that you can tune into.

Free Blackberry Music Download Apps

The BlackBerry does all of those other apps better than the iPhone simply because I can save seconds or fractions of a second. That's more important to me than a little animation that makes the whole process look slightly prettier at the cost of a fraction of a second.

This one is almost too easy. The iPhone was built off the iPod and it is a far, far superior music player. It's the best smartphone out there for playing music. The player never stutters regardless of the sound quality for the song. I found that at 320 kbs quality (which is very high), the BlackBerry music player would stutter.

Navigating the application is also much easier on the iPhone. It's done through a mix of swipes and taps instead of the painful trackpad navigation on the BlackBerry. There are a few shortcuts on the iPhone that I would never give up: double-clicking a headset button to jump to the next track, swiping on an album cover to jump back to the music library and finding specific titles with the search bar.

It's such a ridiculously good app, Apple deserves three points for this. But Apple has music written into its DNA. If it lost this battle, Apple wouldn't even deserve to be the most valuable technology company in the world.

This one should be another automatic victory for the iPhone. It already had an excellent music management program for the iPod with iTunes, so it wouldn't take much to duct tape some additional features onto that. It's really easy to buy music, apps and other content and have it automatically jump onto your phone. Transferring contacts back and forth is also great.

Where iTunes really shines, though, is synchronizing over Wi-fi. There's no excuse for a phone to not be able to do that right now. You can only sync your music with the BlackBerry over Wi-fi, and it's a bit of a chore to set up. You can still use your phone while it's synchronizing, too.

But it's hard to argue that the BlackBerry doesn't have the same mission-critical apps that Apple has. I still have Twitter, I still have Facebook and I still have Pandora. I don't have mindless Angry-Birds-Clone_01, but I don't really care about that.

By comparison, I've had to charge the iPhone several times throughout my stay here so far. I can't leave certain apps open on the iPhone, because they drain the battery so radically quickly that the phone is dead before I realize it. Apple's latest operating system also introduced some changes that reports indicate are killing the phone's battery.

You can share photos and videos you shoot from some of the apps on the BlackBerry, but it just doesn't compare to the iPhone. Twitter and YouTube are basically built into the camera on the iPhone. The Facebook application is superior on the iPhone and it's much easier to share photos and tag people in them.

By comparison, the BlackBerry's sharing mechanisms still feel a little clunky and aren't really integrated at all with the operating system. You have to dive into the apps to ship content off to the web, and it's nowhere near as fast as it is on the iPhone.

I GOT IT WORKING! I GOT IT WORKING! I AM SO EXCITED! Open this site on your computer and use a QR code scanner to scan it and download it on your BB -mobile.en.softonic.com/blackberry/download (make a backup prior to this incase it turns out to be dodgy or something - but i'm logged in and my stuff is redownloading!) but YUSSS I HAVE IT BACK

Story Maker was a basic but awesome video editing solution built right into BlackBerry 10 smartphones. It was built from the ground up for mobile after BlackBerry bought out JayCut and it handled music, photos and video content like a champ. Editing up a quick video, adding some title screens, music and filters was easy and getting that video offloaded from your device to YouTube, Dropbox or wherever you wanted was dead simple. It was one of the best but least talked about built-in offerings of BlackBerry 10 and the results were great!

Now you would think with the move to Android there would be hundreds of apps to choose from in the Google Play Store that would do the same and you're not wrong. There's plenty of video editing apps to choose from. Some of my personal favorites are Quick, Power Director and FilmoraGo but I have yet to find anything that matches the simplicity and ease of use that Story Maker offered. Even Google Play Photos will allow you to do much of what Story Maker did, but it's just not the same. It's just not right.

Cellphone streaming represents the ultimate combination of convenience for consumers and business model flexibility for online music companies, but there's one big problem: data connections, in the U.S. anyway, aren't up to the task of streaming hours of high-quality music in a row without dropouts. And as more people begin streaming media to smartphones, the problem will only get worse.

I just purchased a fitbit Versa. I mentioned to the salesman that I had a blackberry passport cellphone, and he said I would not be able to play music. No big deal, I don't listen to music when I jog.

How are you making out with your Versa ? I got one last week and my BB DTEK50 (Android) worked just fine syncing apps and notifications. It stopped a few days ago. (fitness data works fine). I spent 2 hours with Fitbit on chat and they told me my phone is not compatible. Of course that does not make sense since it worked till a few days ago. I understand that the phone is not on the "list" but I think that has more to do with the fact that Americans/Fitbit probably don't even know that BB has android phones. Would appreciate some feedback

It's sad how we support fitbit but fitbit does not care to support and help us solve this issue. What will it take to meet with blackberry and discuss the way forward for the sake of us their clients???

could not agree more, I have three dead arias, two dead charges, number of dead zips, I've never received a warranty replacement because i did not complain. when i did complain after finding out friends related their experiences I was told I was out of luck. I have refused to buy any more product. My brother gave me his old ionic because we were following each other, f ing thing wont work with blackberry key 2. I really have **ahem** luck with fit bit and their customer service. also spent ages with customer support to no avail. offered me a discount to buy more product???

The first BlackBerry device, the 850, was introduced in 1999 as a two-way pager in Munich, Germany.[10] BlackBerry was a solution devised by RIM for delivering e-mail over several different wireless networks.[11] The name BlackBerry was coined by the marketing company Lexicon Branding. The name was chosen out of about 40 potential names, because of the resemblance of the keyboard's buttons to that of the drupelets that compose the blackberry fruit, and the instant pronunciation which reflected the speed of this push email system.[12]

The first BlackBerry with an Android operating system was released in late November 2015, the 192 grams (6.8 ounces) BlackBerry Priv.[90] It launched with version 5.1.1 but was later upgraded to version 6.0 Android Marshmallow. It was first available in four countries but increased to 31 countries by February 28, 2016.[91]Employing a Qualcomm 8992 Snapdragon 808 Hexa-Core, 64-bit, Adreno 418, 600 MHz GPU with 3 GB RAM processor, this unit is equipped with a curved 5.4-inch (2560 x 1440) OLED display and a sliding QWERTY keyboard which is hidden when not in use; Google's voice recognition that allows for dictating e-mails is also available. The Priv retained the best BlackBerry 10 features. Its 3,410 mAh battery is said to provide 22.5 hours of mixed use. The 18-megapixel camera, with a Schneider-Kreuznach lens, can also record 4K video; a secondary selfie camera is also provided. Several important apps unique to the Priv were available from Google Play by mid December.[92]

BlackBerry devices, as well as Android, iOS, and Windows Phone platforms, have the ability to use the proprietary BlackBerry Messenger, also known as BBM, software for sending and receiving encrypted instant messages, voice notes, images and videos via BlackBerry PIN. As long as your cell phone has a data plan these messages are all free of charge. Some of the features of BBM include groups, bar-code scanning, lists, shared calendars, BBM Music and integration with apps and games using the BBM social platform.

In April 2013, BlackBerry announced that it was shutting down its streaming music service, BBM Music, which was active for almost two years since its launch. BlackBerry Messenger Music closed on June 2, 2013.[95] 0852c4b9a8
