The beginning of our area south of Montauk Highway was and is still called Frederick Shores. Cadmen Fredericks, was a developer early on and much of this land was filled in. He sold lots at that time to people who wanted to leave the city for their summer vacations and escape the heat. While developing this area, he decided the Fred Shore Beach Club would be a good attraction for new homeowners. He saw fit to leave this area on the bay open to the residents for swimming. In 1942, Mr. Frederick turned the deed over to the residents. Mr. Louis Haas and Mr. Anthony Russo were the recipients representing the residents. Over the years, the beach was a wonderful place for families. With time, the beach club built a pavillion, bathrooms, and even a concession which sold hot dogs, hamburgers, candy, ice cream and soda. There was a lifeguard on duty who took care of the beach. There was a roped in area and a float for the residents to enjoy. Many wonderful hours have been spent there by people who live in the Fred Shore community. Mr. Fredericks' plan worked; even now, local real estates use the Fred Shore Beach Club as a selling point for homes in the area that are up for sale.
