I'm an Assistant Professor at the Department of Communication and Cognition at Tilburg University (the Netherlands). I am the recipient of a Starter Grant funded by the Dutch Government with which we study the place of AI in the Criminal Justice System.
My main work focuses around miscommunication. My dissertation allowed me to study deceptive (linguistic) behavior from a natural language processing (NLP) perspective. Since then, I have expanded my interests to the use of technology to foster (mis)communication, from studies attempting to understand why we believe in conspiracy theories, how AI is used in the criminal justice system, or how it can be leveraged to counter misinformative content.
I have trained multiple field actors on matters of deception and critical thinking, such as the French army, the French and Swiss police, insurance companies, or human resources.
