About
Fred Aguilar Promise Center started about 25 years ago with a primary goal of helping students with homework after school. We did this successfully for 10 years using a wing of a neighborhood church.. Then, through a variety of collaborations with social service agencies, GCCISD School District, and community meetings a plan was designed for Promise Center to develop into a full community center which has in house programs and also refers clients to other community service partners to address more needs for the community.
In 2008 we located a building in the neighborhood that was the right type, size and budget for our needs at 2609-A Market (previously the Baytown Thrift Shop and prior to that Britton Cravens Hardware, many years ago.) With additional space, we expanded our programs to include free summer camps, community garage sales, festivals, health & job fairs, health & exercise classes, basic computer skills and also offer a space for other community groups to hold meetings.
In 2023, we found a need to look for a new building and entered into a partnership with the Baytown Optimist Club at 1724 -1/2 Market St. to share space as we search for our next home. Once we transition, our Seeds of Promise program will continue to be house at the Optimist Club. We are committed to remain connected with this organization that shares our like values.
