Greatest Apple Pie

This gorgeous crust can be used for any pie. Makes 2 crusts.

For the Crust

2 cups sifted flour

1 tsp. salt

3/4 cup shortening (or room temp. butter)

1/2 cup cold water

Cut shortening in flour with table knife till crumbly. Add water and mix with fork. Let set 5 minutes. Roll out dough.

For the Filling

3/4 - 1 cup sugar

2 Tbsp. flour

1/2 - 1 tsp. cinnamon

dash nutmeg and salt

6 cups apples, sliced (or diced)

2 Tbsp. butter

1 9" unbaked double pie crust

  1. Combine sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Add apples and mix well.
  2. Fill pie plate with apple mixture and dot with butter.
  3. Cover with top crust.
  4. Bake at 400 for 55 minutes. Serve warm.

Variation: Cover with crumb topping instead of top crust.
