REgular Season RULES
MATCHES:
a. Game times are 6:00 PM, 7:00 PM & 8:00 PM. Please be early enough to start on time.
b. Each match will be 3 games to 21 (rally scoring)
c. CO-ED - At least 2 females must be on the court.
d. QUAD - No gender requirements
SUBSTITUTIONS:
a. Open subs are allowed during regular season play. (you can get anybody you want, including players from another team, to fill in when needed).
b. For the Tournament - Players can only play on one team and must have played at least one regular season game with that team.
TEAMS / PLAYERS
a. CO-ED - 6 players on the court is encouraged during regular season play, but you may play with less if needed.
b. QUAD - 4 players on the court is encouraged during regular season play, but you may play with less if needed.
c. Players younger than 16 should have permission from parents before playing and be able to compete with adults.
d. For the tournament, you must have (6 players for Co-Ed), (4 for QUADs);
If playing with fewer than required, a side-out point will be awarded to the other team each time the missing player(s) serving rotation comes up. Serve will also return to the other team.
ILLEGAL HITS
a. CO-ED & QUAD
Cannot 'lift' (catch & throw) the ball (e.g. using open hand(s) facing upward. The ball must 'bounce' or 'rebound' off of an open handed hit (referees' judgment).
When the ball is on one side of the court, the opposing team cannot reach over the net and block or otherwise contact the ball unless it is on the 3rd hit or an attack hit.
You cannot attack a served ball before it drops below the height of the net.
b. QUADS - You cannot send the ball across the net with an open hand using fingers ('tip' or 'dink'). The ball must bounce or rebound off of a fist, knuckles, back of the hand or it must clearly bounce off of the hand.
c. QUADS - A two-handed overhand pass across the net must be perpendicular to the shoulders (front or backwards). This applies to any hit or attack across the net.
POSITIONS:
a. Each player is to serve in rotation.
b. CO-ED - Players must start in their respective position on the court before the serve.
A back row player cannot attack a ball above the height of the net in front of the 10' attack line. (an imaginary line 10 feet from the net) (referees judgement)
A back row player may not block a ball above the height of the net in front of the 10' attack line. (see 5b.) (referees judgement)
c. QUAD - There are no positions. Each player is to serve in rotation.
NET VIOLATIONS:
a. A player may not touch the net
b. A player may cross underneath the net into the opposing team’s side of the court so long as they do not contact an opposing player, interfere with play in any way, or cause any safety concern (referee’s discretion).
c. During a play at the net, incidental contact between opposing players does not constitute a violation.
