Kitbashing models has long been the standard for creating other worldly crafts and creatures.  I once dreamed of working at ILM: Industrial Light and Magic (George Lucas' special effects company), but alas teaching art became the long term "side job".  Now, getting back to designing spaceships the old fashioned way (without downloading and 3D Printing) but actually scavenging parts.  Try to find these items in the model:  Mouthwash bottle, Medicine shot containers, Router parts, Plastic Bottle holders, Faucet Parts and much more!

This completely "scratch build" original design is ready for screen / film: no model kit or 3D Printer use.
