The recent session of the Legislative Yuan concluded on January 31, just before the statutory 5th session began the following day.
As stipulated by the Constitution of the Republic of China (ROC), the Legislative Yuan holds two regular sessions each year: the first from February to the end of May, and the second from September to the end of December. However, a session may be extended whenever necessary.
On the final day of the session, the Legislative Yuan passed several controversial bills. In response, the Executive Yuan is currently considering the legality and feasibility of refusing to countersign these bills.
Although the second legislative session of 2025 has practically ended, the annual national budget remains blocked by the legislature. This deadlock has raised significant concerns regarding the progress of ongoing government projects.
Following the Lunar New Year break, the Legislative Yuan and its various committees are scheduled to resume the deliberation of bills and interpellations on February 24.
